You forgot to mention that GOP constituents trusted their representatives not to stab them in the back in 1995.
I don’t think that was exactly relevant to the discussion of campaign strategies actually - and in 95, with power for the first time in 40 years - they succombed to some powerful and unpredictable forces, altho they did do some great things that helped our economy for half a generation. I think “stabbed in back” is less than accurate here, though they did not follow thru on everything.
