I would not get my panties in a wad over this.

“Goodby” is a contraction of “God be with you”.

Does every American saying this mean to invoke the blessings of our Heavenly Father?

Probably not.
O probably had a staffer tell him “This is how you say “Goodby” (literally) in Farsi. It is a good way to get Brownie points with Iran.”

I know what the phrase “goodbye” means. I rarely use it, actually.

After all it’s alledged that he once recited the “ call to prayer” with the proper wording and inflections.
