Frustrated Republicans Vent after Senate Vote
National Review Online ^ | September 27, 2013 5:32 PM | Betsy Woodruff

Posted on 09/28/2013 8:29:24 AM PDT by Hojczyk

One Senate aide blamed Corker’s spotlight-grabbing role as Cruz’s foil on weak Republican leadership. “Because our leadership has not led for a number of months because of electoral politics, Senator McCain and Senator Graham and Senator Corker have sort of emerged as sort of de facto leaders in a leadership vacuum,” he says. “I like Senator Cornyn, I like Senator McConnell, I respect them, I know their colleagues respect them, but in fairness there just has not been a whole lot of direction, there’s really been no strategy.”

“It might not work,” he adds of Cruz and Lee’s efforts (we spoke a few minutes before the vote), “but what’s the alternative that leadership or anyone else is offering? What’s Bob Corker’s plan?”

It’s messy, and there’s plenty of tension to go around. When asked about the level of frustration directed at his boss, an aide for a senator involved in the defund efforts says, laughing, that “it’s about as high as I’ve ever seen it.”

“I wouldn’t want to test it to see if it could go much higher,” he adds. “Change is hard. People don’t like changes.”

They also don’t like being targeted by members of their own party. Senator Lindsey Graham reiterated to me his frustration with some of his fellow Senate Republicans. “My fate is in my hands, not theirs, and they said some things about our colleagues that I just think are really out of line,” he adds of Cruz et al. “At the end of the day,” he continues, “they’ve got to decide what kind of role they want to play, I’ve got to decide what kind of role I want to play to grow the Republican party and to save the country.”

If the GOP nominates Christie in 2016 I may stay home.

Those Rino repubs that stood shoulder to shoulder with Harry Reid have just displayed their true colors. They are more interested in getting re-elected that doing their constituents will.

“Time for a third party ?????”

Yup, I’ll never vote for another republican on a national ticket. Will not vote for a democrat ever. If there is no viable 3rd party candidate on the ballot, I will stay home....red

The GOP in congress has to decide whether it wants to be an opposition party or not. This has been a long time coming and the issues we face now have no room for business as usual anymore.

This is why the RINOs are screaming. Its the beginning of the end for them. THEY are the reactionaries.

Well Senator, I believe it is not you who will decide but the voters of South Carolina who will decide.

Lindsey Graham: “My fate is in my hands, not theirs, and they said some things about our colleagues that I just think are really out of line,”

A very telling and inaccurate assessment of his own situation that sheds light on his undeserved arrogance. If Grahamnesty would listen to someone like Cruz instead of John McCain, he would not have even been challenged for this upcoming election. Lindsissey, your fate is not in your hands, but in the hands of the voters of South Carolina.

I called the National GOP and told them they could shove their Party. I don’t care if there is an election for dog catcher locally, I will not pull a lever for either a Democrat or Republican UNLESS the Republican has publicly pledged his/her support for the Tea Party and vice versa. PERIOD!

Not going to happen. The Elite Republicans have too much money backing them. They are playing their sheep like a fisherman plays a fish or a cat plays a mouse.

Cruz, in a way, did the job of the cavalry scout this week.

He went deep into the “danger zone”
Drew fire.
Exposed positions.
Disrupted the other side.
Revealed weaknesses with his side’s generalship.

And gave the good guys a crystal clear map of the battlefield so we know what to do in 2014.

I call this a huge victory for us.
