What Democrats were told by their own economist about deficits;
10/21/2009 Transcript of Pelosi, House Democratic Leaders, and Economists Press Conference Following Economic Forum
Alan Blinder - And let me say this: I think our focus on the fiscal situation and deficit is very important in the long run, but I think it is also very appropriate to run a larger near term budget deficit to make sure that this economy gets out of this situation and gets on a self sustaining economic track. ...That said, we do have to be mindful of the long-run deficit problem. I have been taken recently in a number of venues to be quoting not quite correctly, paraphrasing St. Augustine who said something like, Lord, make me chaste, but not just yet We do need to become more chaste about the budget deficit, we do need to pay attention to the long-run fiscal hole, a lot of attention but in the short term, this is not the time to do it. 2009 and probably 2010 are not the times to do that.
Heather Boushey - Finally, I want to end with a statement about the deficit as well. I think that all of us agree that focusing on the short term deficit isnt the right thing to do, we need to make sure that were focusing on job creation and if we dont get people back to work, that too will increase the deficit. It isnt an either or, the reality is that we need to get the economy back on track; we need to get people back to work. That will help our long term fiscal situation and then we need to be thinking about the deficit a few years out once weve got the economy back together.
Mark Zandi - I think our focus on the fiscal situation and deficit is very important in the long run, but I think it is also very appropriate to run a larger near term budget deficit to make sure that this economy gets out of this situation and gets on a self sustaining economic track.
Robert Kuttner - Last comment: you need to think about reduction of debt relative to the GDP as a 10-year project and in order to get the economy back on track, we may well need, we do need, more deficit spending now and in the next year but with a pre commitment to deficit reduction over 10 years through progressive taxation, one of the things we seem to agree on is a financial transactions tax, taxes aimed at the people who are still making out in this crisis so that the benefit can go to ordinary people and we dont have to sacrifice the recovery on the long term/short term deficit reduction.
(Remember: Pelosi had been Speaker from January, 2007)

Alan Blinder - “I think it is really quite remarkable that this many Members of the congressional leadership show up and spend several hours with the likes of us, talking seriously about the economy”
[The Great Jobless Recovery!]
Oh Gawd! Now we are implementing martial law per McGovern.
The Fed Nominee?
Robert Kuttner - ...but with a pre commitment to deficit reduction over 10 years through progressive taxation, one of the things we seem to agree on is a financial transactions tax, taxes aimed at the people who are still making out in this crisis so that the benefit can go to ordinary people and we dont have to sacrifice the recovery on the long term/short term deficit reduction.
[And hows that progressive taxation going, Mr Kuttner? Even Bernanke observed unemployment hasn’t improved...]
What? I missed that. (Someone knocked on my door)
Listening to the democrats whine on Cspan. These people all have it backwards and inside out. All we have to do is abide by the constitution and there is no problem. No shutdown. No runaway, unconstitutional government programs. The House has the constitutional duty to say no and to deny funding for nation-wrecking, unconstitutional programs like obamacare.
As Democrats speak: Every American should realize the horror of becoming dependent on Government to provide anything.
Hey, McGovern. Shut yer pie hole. WE WON THE ELECTION FOR THE HOUSE, jerk! The House holds the constitutional power of the purse! We the people have their backs. Sit down, shut up!
If I understood him, the rule to be voted on (to speed the process) was based on a martial law bill. Later in his rhetoric he said “so we are implementing martial law.”
That is how deep the BS is.
Exactly! Obama is crying he's being blackmailed and we just say "Thank you, sir! May I have another?".
Prez says he won't be blackmailed, we need to stand up and say we won't be bullied. The House is far more representative than the Senate yet those clowns say our way or the highway and the House is supposed to fold
And their threats of shutting down the gov't and blaming Republicans, THEIR THREATS - they refuse to pass a budget all year long then hold a gov't shutdown over the people's heads if Obamacare isn't funded. Even though the people don't want it, they bully America into surrendering their healthcare.
McGovern, how about the income tax increase on folks making more than $400k? Republicans went along with that, now where are the Democrat cuts?
[American for rolling back the Sequester Tax Increase for Democrat cuts that never happened] MEGAphone to Boehner...
And I have yet to hear anyone reply:
Yes Obama won, but your job is to represent your constituents, NOT the president.
This is why I cringe whenever I hear a GOP Senator say the president deserves his nominees.
Ms NY just said this bill isn’t in effect and won’t be until Jan. Obummer said that over 1M already have the new benefits. How can they have the new benefits if it isn’t yet in effect? Is he speaking about those to which he gave waivers?
Obama: One Third of Americans ‘Already Have New Benefits’ (Another day, another lie)
“Obama claimed yet again he would not blink on the Affordable Care Act if the government shuts down. That’s not going to happen, he said. More than 100 million Americans currently already have new benefits and protections under the law. On Tuesday, about 40 million more Americans will be able to finally buy quality affordable health care just like anybody else.(continued)

“A one-year delay in the implementation of the 2010 health care law and repeal of a medical device tax appeared to be the top contenders under consideration ... Other suggestions of bargaining chips include a stop to the health care subsidies for lawmakers and staff who are expected to get their insurance from Obamacare exchanges.... opposition to the medical device tax is stronger than its ever been. But Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., indicated that repeal of the tax is not enough to get people to vote for the CR.”
But wait Rep Slaughter, 4 years ago we were told Democrats had brought the recovery to an end;
Speaker Pelosi - “Nearly one year ago, or at the beginning of 2009, we passed the recovery package. What we heard across the board from our economists is that it is very positive, is it working, it has brought the great recession it is bringing that to an end.”
[The Great Jobless Recovery!]
I believe it was this Representative McGovern guy that just said
in his “law-of-the-land, “elections-have-consequences” barfing,
that democrats gained seats in both the house and the senate
in the 2012 elections.
What? I missed that. (Someone knocked on my door) Reference to #22

On Fox News they mentioned “legislative Martial Law” while mentioning the offer to delay Obamacare for one year.
Rep Burgess is hitting the correct points about what is wrong from when the law was passed to all of the delays now.
McGovern then responded by calling it a diatribe.
Yeah, Rep McGovern are these all legal votes?
