“Segregate”, to a female Marine recruit, means that they have completely separate training platoons, and I think even battalions. They train separate from the men, not side by side.
This experiment is idiotic, but the description provided here is accurately worded, IMO.
The hygiene issues are long known problems that nobody seems able to overcome.
