Why not have states split?

It’s happened before (Maine + W. Virginia), and there is nothing saying we have to have 50. We had far fewer in the past.

Most of these are states created out of territories, not (for the most part) former nations with centuries of history. Big whoop if California shrinks.

A split won’t be permitted. Can’t be permitted, given the reliance of Blue on Red.

The only thing that I can think of that can put things back on track would be a nationwide strike by food producers and related transportation workers. Let the cities look starvation in the face.

Unfortunately, such a strike would be brutally put down by the government ...
