Two great editorials in our newspaper yesterday on this subject:

1) Affordable Care Act belies its name

In 2013, I paid $176 per month for a high-deductible plan with a deductible and co-insurance out-of-pocket payment of $1,500. The result is that my out-of-pocket health care costs were $3,612.

I received my insurance information for 2014 last week. The plan most similar to what I now have that will meet the requirements of the new law costs $283 per month. To that, I have to add the deductible and co-insurance of $6,350, which makes my out-of-pocket costs $9,700, an increase of 271 percent.

I have an income of $18,000. With the new law, it is estimated that I will qualify for a $250 subsidy from the workers who make more money than I do. If I don’t use that money to pay my bill, then I cannot afford health insurance and am penalized.

To summarize, this law takes money from those with higher-paying jobs to pay my health care costs because the health insurance plan I could afford failed to meet federal requirements. Is this why it is called the Affordable Care Act?

2) Guess who pays for Obamacare credits?

The “Obamacare & You” guide (Sept. 22 World-Herald) provides information about who qualifies for tax credits. The problem is that it should have explained how this program is funded. The U.S. government is broke with a nearly $17 trillion debt. Guess who’s going to pay for these credits? People who have jobs.

When all Americans are bankrupted, there won’t be discussions on all of the entitlement programs. There won’t be any.

"When all Americans are bankrupted"

That's the intent of the Affordable Care Act. When we are all bankrupt they will demand that we rewrite the Constitution to allow the government to "take care of us".
