It is quite clear that the deceptively-named Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), was NOT supported by We the People when it was crammed down our throats three years ago so we could see whats in it. Its popularity has plummeted since then as weve found out. Support has dwindled in recent months among the middle and lower classes whose very jobs are threatened by it as employers cut work hours to avoid it, and traditional Democratic bases like unions realize theyve been deceived. Even arch-Osupporter Warren Buffet is now on record against it.
One response by the administrationarguably illegalis to grant waivers to Friends of Obama. Waivers are rapidly becoming the new version of a tax loophole for politically connected companies. If one business gets a waiver and its competitor does not, it is cronyism in its worst form, similar to the way targeted tax breaks use the power of Washington to punish the productive in protecting the politically connected.
In a development only beltway bandits can appreciate, we are now hearing of even some conservatives (we thought) who are wavering themselves on whether Congress can or even should defund the ACA.
Fortunately, the Founders answered these questions over 200 years ago. In Federalist #58, James Madison addressed the very issue of steering the government through financial restrictions or the power over the purse. The issue was and is whether the smaller population states (in the Senate) and a possibly tyrannical Executive could essentially override the true will of the peoples House of Representatives. Does this sound familiar? He explained, after discussing many other checks on the other two branches that,
" Admitting, however, that they should all be insufficient to subdue the unjust policy of the smaller States, or their predominant influence in the councils of the Senate, a constitutional and infallible resource still remains with the larger States, by which they will be able at all times to accomplish their just purposes. The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they alone can propose, the supplies requisite for the support of government. They, in a word, hold the purse -- that powerful instrument by which we behold, in the history of the British Constitution, an infant and humble representation of the people gradually enlarging the sphere of its activity and importance, and finally reducing, as far as it seems to have wished, all the overgrown prerogatives of the other branches of the government. This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure " [bold emphasis added]
This seems especially appropriate on Constitution Day when the "big government" Senators and House Members don't seem to think the House can or should defund Obamacide.

“Obamacide”... I love it!
..did you coin that Jimbo?..OBAMACIDE?
I’m with you my FRiend, and I am with TED CRUZ.. This is the last stand, if we let this stand pass without at least a delay, it’s OVER..
LOL. Nope.
didn’t even see it. Read it as ObamaCare.
Yes, the most accurate appellation I've heard yet.
When the jackass in chief says that there was a referendum on Obamacare and the people voted him into office over it, I guess he fails to note that the people’s house was still in GOP firm control. To me that means he won the personality contest but on the issue of obamacare, he lost. Furthermore, he is a phoney to say his election was solely over the health law.
LOL! I call it “O No! Care”
A show and sham process is underway now with phony votes to give insider politicians their fake “NO” votes while the GOP machine undercuts Ted Cruz, who’s up there doing the real fighting.
They sent out a “Conservative Intel” e-mail talking about “repealing” Obamacare instead of defunding it.
This is the old Boehner-Cantor-Romney “repeal and replace” argument which is about turning Obamcare into Romneycare.
The country needs a new direction not Obamalite from the RINO lesders who will exploit our resentments and hatreds of Obama and Obamacare but will not reverse his policies and bring fiscal sanity back to this country.
The RINO’s will campaign like crazy against Obamacare in 2014 but will do nothing to really reverse it unless they are replaced in primaries next year or perhaps by a third party.
*smiles*..evidently, it’s been around a long time
Obamacided. That’s the term my brother used when he told me he was loosing his non-union, company sponsored, cadilac for life, health plan. The company had the plan funded to last for all empolyees for life until the Obama taxes destroyed it. That was over a month ago.
This is going to end up back in Boehner’s lap. Pray he has the courage to maintain the battle he started on Friday. The House wield’s the constitutional power of the purse. If the house does not fund it, it does not get funded. The House can reject what Reid’s senate sends back to them and the House can begin passing a series of bills funding each essential department, one by one. Let Reid/Obama threaten to shut each one down in turn. We the people will know the truth.
I don't think that the ACA actually allows for Presidential (Congressional?) exemptions.
In the USA we have a thing called "rule of law." The ACA either applies to all, or it applies to none. If its a "law" that can be ignored at will by our elites, then it is no law at all. To say otherwise is un-American.
It follows that ACA is not the "law of the land."
I'm not saying that the House Republicans are playing smart politics. But at this point I don't care. ACA has to be defunded in order to uphold the bedrock principle of the rule of law. And if it means driving this corrupt piece of crap government over a cliff then I'm all for it.
Well said. Agree.
It’s not the law of the land if it gets no funding.
Pray Boehners newly found backbone stays stiff, so he can reject Reids amended bill and then starts passing individual bills funding each essential department one at a time. No funding for obamacare! Cut the funding for HHS and IRS so they cannot possibly implement obamacare. The House and the House alone wields the constitutional power of the purse, and the power to deny unconstitutional expansionist government! The Founders gave the House this power for this explicit purpose. So we the people can block out of control, runaway, government through our elected representatives in the House!
“it is cronyism in its worst form...”
The proper word is fascism, where the dictator directs the unelected bureaucrats to grant favors to those who support that dictator and his policies. We are at that point.
When, in the course of human events . . .
There is no law when massive civil disobedience trumps it. 546 DC crooks cannot control millions of Americans. The numbers aren’t on their side.
