Members of the Iranian Jewish community in the United States have refused an invitation to meet with the new Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, despite his recent moderate comments, reports the Jewish Week.

The decision to reject Rouhani’s invitation for a meeting during his visit to New York for the UN General Assembly came after considerable discussion among the leadership of the Iranian Jewish community in New York and Los Angeles over the weekend.

Iranian Jews are nobody's fools. I remember back when Khomeini took over, Chabad's Rabbi J.J. Hecht had to provide housing, schooling and shelter for a whole lot of Iranian kids smuggled out of the country by their parents. They knew what was coming, and Rouhani's no better.

The charm offensive continues. Now that they have won a huge strategic advantage due to the Syrian debacle, the wily mullahs will talk, present themselves as peace loving reasonable men while all the while they keep those nuclear centrifuges spinning. they know Obama will never attack. Iran will have its nuclear weapons within a year. The Iranian Jews would be fools to participate in the charade.

I wouldn’t say they’ve got a strategic advantage. Assad is still fighting for his life and could lose. But if he loses, it will be no thanks to the US. So the Mullahs have a tactical advantage, because they might cozy up to the victorious rebels, who will not be beholden to the US, even if they were inclined to be grateful for the covert aid, because Obama’s a weak horse, and might make a deal with the Mullahs, because they are the strong horse, assuming they’re inclined to be forgetful. Strategically, though, they’ll be stuck with only Lebanon as a sure ally, and the Wahhabists, despite any agreement, will still regard the Shiites as their real enemy right after they exterminate all Jooos! and Chris-chins! (a mere formality in their estimation), which will interfere with their working relationship.

from Wikipedia:

On March 16, 1979, Habib Elghanian, the honorary leader of the Jewish community, was arrested on charges of "corruption", "contacts with Israel and Zionism", "friendship with the enemies of God", "warring with God and his emissaries", and "economic imperialism". He was tried by an Islamic revolutionary tribunal, sentenced to death, and executed on May 8,[23][27] one of 17 Iranian Jews executed as spies since the revolution.[28]

... Privately many Jews complain to foreign reporters of "discrimination, much of it of a social or bureaucratic nature." The Islamic government appoints the officials who run Jewish schools, most of these being Muslims and requires that those schools must open on Saturdays, the Jewish Sabbath. Criticism of this policy was the downfall of the last remaining newspaper of the Iranian Jewish community which was closed in 1991 after it criticized government control of Jewish schools. Instead of expelling Jews en mass like in Libya, Iraq, Egypt, and Yemen, the Iranians have adopted a policy of keeping Jews in Iran.[31
