At a morning sermon Sunday in Northern Virginia, Republican lieutenant governor candidate E.W. Jackson, a Chesapeake pastor, said people who dont follow Jesus Christ are engaged in some sort of false religion.
Jackson offered that view while describing a list of the controversial things he believes, and that must be said, as a Christian....
It is not the first time Jackson has weighed in with controversial comments on questions of faith and social issues. He has also said that gay peoples minds are perverted. They are frankly very sick people psychologically and mentally and emotionally....

While persecuting Jews is completely non Christian, unfortunately it wasn’t uncommon among nominal Christians frm the dark ages until farely recently.
He is, today, the most famous of the Protestants, but was not even the driving force in the Reformation movement.
The Christian world was and is far larger than Martin Luther and the Pope.
What you posted of Luther's work is in direct contradiction of Christian Holy Scripture - but I won't expect a non-Christian to make the distinction. Luther's writings are often cited by Christians of all denominations - so your point is well taken.
This recanting of wrongs by “Christians” in ancient times to justify an irrational fear of Christians today would be no different from me hating Jews for their enthusiastic persecution of the early Christians. I don't. I wholeheartedly support Israel, and view Jews as God's chosen people.
However, I asked for examples of Christians persecuting Jews - and you provided it. The fact that I condemn such actions in the name of Christ would not have, and can not logically be expected to have, any bearing on the attitude of the larger Jewish community toward Christians.
But - the Jews, if they want to hold onto the old wrongs (and they have every right to do so) should at least acknowledge their early actions against Christianity, the central part Christians played in establishment of the current state of Israel, and the Jews’ own irrational faithfulness to the democrats today, descendants of the most virulent strains of antisemitism in modern history.
He was speaking as a preacher.
Politicians tell us all the time what to think - some of the weak obey, some are just frightened. The rest of us continue to think as we will.
Yes - but the Jews that rejected the Messiah were following false doctrine - according to Jesus and the apostles.
The religious Jews of today follow that same doctrine and reject Christ as the Messiah.
Christ is the Messiah.
Christ is not the Messiah.
One of them is false.
I understand, and agree with the basic sentiment.
However, as I posted elsewhere:
Christ is the Messiah
Christ is not the Messiah
One of them is false.
Another Compost boogeyman ....
Macaca-ing the right.....
I guess all the Christians should just stop telling people what they believe if they run for office. That’s a good plan. We do want to be “acceptable.”
Sorry, have to jump in here...
Nazis and specifically, Hitler, were NOT Christian nor did they espouse any form of religion...
All orthodox chrstians by definition believe that non-chrstian religions are false! Orthodox moslems believe that non-moslem religions are false! Orthodox Jews believe the religions of the nations of the world are false! That's the way most religions work!!!
Most people, including most FReepers, simply don't realize that the liberals have reduced religion to subjective ethno-cultural folklore and have relegated any and all religious people who hold to orthodox beliefs of any kind to a sort of leper status--just as they've done with opposition to homosexuality!
Come on people! Recognize this for what it is! Sincere adherents of non-chrstian religions (of which this writer is one) have no reason whatsoever to be offended by the notion of chrstians who believe only chrstianity is the true religion, nor should they have any concerns about any other religion (including islam) making the exact same claim!
This whole notion of religion as subjective folk belief began with the "enlightenment." It must be rejected! Everyone must EXPLICITLY reaffirm religions as claimants to absolute truth, even if those claims are mutually exclusive! This is how it was understood by everyone until a few decades ago. Let's get it back to that!!!
The basic premise - Jesus Christ is the Son of God, come to earth in the form of a man, as Messiah, Lord and Savior.
The Jews reject that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
They reject that He is the Messiah.
They reject that He is Lord and Savior.
If a religious Jew were to accept the basic premise - they would be exactly like Peter, and John and Paul...and they would be Christians.
WHEN he returns, some will accept Him - but they must turn from their previous unbelief to do so.
For clarification - I am speaking of Judaism from the time of Christ to now. I fully accept the Old Testament as the true Word of God. I fully accept that Christ is the fulfillment of the Law.
::Slaps forehead:: ARG!!! Read my post above! And I'm a Noachide!
Well, as a reader of history, I understand why the Jews have been persecuted since Jesus’ crucifixion....
The Jewish leaders had Him killed.
We agree, Giles.
Christ is not the Messiah is a false statement.
Would that the Jews, en mass, recognize this.
I love the Jewish people.
Jewbacca, are you going to set some sort of "test" for political office that effectively bars anyone from running unless he/she subscribes to the notion that "all religions are equally beautiful, truthful, and savage mythologies and anyone who still actually believes in one belongs in a mental institution???"
Jewbacca, I'm a former chrstian. If you're "going to hell" (chas veshalom!), then so am I! Yet I'm not afraid of them coming after me, and if they were to come after anyone it would be me and not any Orthodox Jews!
The notion that there is some secular universal objective standard has never been anything other than hooey. Chrstians consider the various versions of chrstianity (and their number is infinite) to be the only objective standard and you and I so consider the Torah! Being in politics does not grant one a license to betray G-d!
Exactly.....
You got me. This is true. But I don't think fear of preachy chrstians should be used as an excuse to defend a non-existent secular objective standard of morality, ethics, or justice.
One other point...
The patriarch of our American Royalty, the Kennedy family, was a rabid anti-Semite...among other despicable things.
I am not a religious person. My statements are purely political and secular in nature. I’m interested in conservatives winning elections and statements like Pastor Jackson’s do nothing to advance the conservative cause. I leave the theological discussions to others.
This is literally true - but wickedly non-PC. I love to see peoples’ reactions when I refer to muslims as idol worshippers.
A lot more would be conservative, if being conservative wasnt so easily conflated with covert or die Christianity of near history.
Conservatism has never been conflated with "convert or die 'chrstianity'" in the United States of America. Never. Islam, however, still apparently believes in "convert or die," yet this doesn't keep people like Abe Foxman from looking at moslems as allies in the war against Those Awful Rednecks--the one and only enemy that has ever existed or ever shall exist.
Judaism isn't conventionally proselytary, but it does teach that it is a Jewish duty to compel (that's the word I've seen quoted) all the nations of the earth to accept the Noachide Laws. Should that be classified as "fascist religious fanaticism?" Do you know how much better off we'd all be if Torah Jews were more visible and aggressive in making this known to the world?
