"It is not, however, too late to set the record straight in the public square and with lawmakers, who will be predictably pressured to do something. Here, the truth is vital, for it demonstrates neatly the reality that, in a country with 350-million-plus privately owned firearms, the state is utterly powerless to stop evil with the law. President Obama, Senator Feinstein, Senator Schumer et al. could have pushed through Congress every single gun-control provision that they coveted earlier this year an assault weapons ban, a limit on the size of magazines, and a requirement that background checks be conducted for all private sales and yesterday would nonetheless have happened exactly as it did. Indeed, in preparing for his spree, Aaron Alexis quite literally followed Joe Bidens advice: He went out and bought an uncontroversial shotgun from a reputable, licensed dealer and subjected himself successfully to a federal background check. So routine was this purchase, it should be noted, that it could have been made legally in England or in France".

On Tuesday, NewsBusters called on CNN’s Piers Morgan to retract his errant claim from the previous evening that Washington Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis brought an AR-15 with him to the massacre.
Much to our dismay, Morgan still has not done so.
Quite the contrary, doing his best Hillary Clinton, Morgan via Twitter Tuesday said it didn’t matter what kind of gun Alexis used:
aint gonna happen.
Piers Morgan knows how to play the incrementalism game. He’s been confronted before on his program about the scores of “children” killed in Chicago with handguns, and why is he on his high horse with ARs. His reply is always “we can talk about Chicago’s problems later, after we solve Sandy Hook’s.”
Ban the ARs first. Then ban all semi-autos. Finally ban all handguns. (And he will need to pray that a different SCOTUS will overturn Heller in the process.)
I wish gun control were dead. Unfortunately there are still over 20,000 gun control laws on the books. The sad fact is that gun control is just easier than crazy people control. It’s just a whole lot simpler to control sane, law abiding people than it is to control nuts.
