Cruz's statement was ill advised. If you champion a cause, as a leader you push the effort positively and do not start talking defeat before other Senators who may be having doubts about voting along with Harry Reid actually vote. Cruz certainly was capable of phrasing his remark in a more positive manner than the way he said it. In short, he screwed up with his defeatist statement. A hard fighter never talks defeat until its over.
