While many U.S. restaurant chains and retailers do not allow firearms on their properties, Starbucks' policy had been to default to local gun laws, including "open carry" regulations in many U.S. states that allow people to bring guns into stores.
In August, this led gun-rights advocates to hold a national "Starbucks Appreciation Day" to thank the firm for its stance, pulling the company deeper into the fierce political fight.
Locations for Starbucks Appreciation Day events included Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 children and six adults were shot dead in an elementary school in December. Starbucks closed that shop before the event was scheduled to begin.
Chief Executive Howard Schultz said in an open letter to customers late Tuesday that Starbucks Appreciation Day events "disingenuously portray Starbucks as a champion of 'open carry.' To be clear: we do not want these events in our stores."
The coffee chain did not, ............

How about leaving our money at home too?
I left Starbucks 6 months ago when they came out in support of gay marriage. Pay them no mind.
This is so thoughtful, so well considered, so high-minded! Now Starbucks will be safe because when the bad guys read that guns are not allowed, well, they’ll just leave their weapons out in the car! Liberal thinking at its most refined.
If they got the orders right, people wouldn’t feel so inclined.
Proud to say I’ve never spent a dime at Starbucks
after all the gun owners held ‘starbuck appreciation days” they have the nerve to come out and say they don’t want to be associated with those events or be known as a champion of gun rights...
Looks like they did not enjoy the ‘chik-fil-a’ treatment- time to give them the ANTI ‘chik-fil-a’ treatment
Businesses and organizations who ban gun, ought to be held to strict liability standards, that anyone hurt at one of their stores should be able to sue the corporation to recover damages, as they were not allowed to use the most effective means of self defense. It’s Starbucks responsibility.
As a daily concealed carrier, how will Starbucks even know I have my piece?
So Starbucks is now a Gun Free Zone.....err, Free Fire Zone.
No thanks.
Starbucks.. a self proclaimed ‘TARGET RICH EMPORIUM’
1. Aurora movie theater
2. Newtown school
3. Navy Yard
4. (GOD Forbid!!)
Don’t go.
Isn’t this a result of yesterday’s news about an open-carry woman getting harassed by an anti-gun customer in a NH starbucks?
The letter should have addressed his hostile customer base and asked that they leave fellow patrons alone.
In Texas, if you put up your 30.06 sign as required by law, then I cannot legally carry in your establishment. Otherwise, screw you.
“.....how will Starbucks even know I have my piece?...”
I say, in principle......boycott (liberal establishments!)
After all, they target conservative and moral business (i.e. homo wedding cake )
But will the violent criminals respect their wishes?
Starbucks has created a new Free Kill Zone!
It’s their right, and it’s my right to not patronize the place.
Having said that, boycotts don't work. Starbucks isn't likely to notice the loss of revenue from a few thousand angry FReepers. Or even ten thousand angry 2nd Amendment supporters. What worked in the Christian bakers case was the fact that the business was small and local, and the activists successfully created a hostile environment toward the owners. I don't think that will be successful here.
I was at Top Golf in Allen a couple months ago. I noticed their 30.06 on my way in. On my way out I noticed a bulletin board that advertised CHL classes? Irony is so ironic.
