Not one of the skyscrapers listed is in the United States.

Sad.

Sad for the architects, engineers, and builders perhaps, but having the tallest skyscraper is a trivial goal these days. I would expect significant diminishing ROI with the excessive heights.

I like the organic shapes, like the twisted towers. Computer-modeling makes these fantastic buildings possible. I also like the one that looks like a lantern.

Unfortunately, though, most of the buildings listed are just plain ugly.

Skyscrapers are butt ugly...They attract massive traffic and obnoxious people...

Sure glad I don’t live near one of these ugly monstrosities which totally destroy the natural landscape.

Keep them in the big ugly cities...

Perhaps I’m just too conservative in my taste in skyscrapers but to me the winner is not only unattractive, it fails to elicit feelings of stability. Perhaps if a long view photo was shown I might change my mind.

Chicago had one planned that probably would have made the list, but its construction was left in limbo with the economic downturn:

If you follow the link, you’ll see that building would’ve looked like a big screw. Unfortunately, we ended up sending an even bigger screw to Washington.

Quote from the Construction foreman:

"We got started OK on these building but then something went wrong. We didn't know what to do so we just kept building. Sure, they look a little funny. So what if they didn't turn out the same?. Nothings perfect. But I am a little worried about the one with the twist. It keeps getting a little more twisted every day."

I rather like the one in Seoul where they will project images taken by cameras on one side of the building onto the other side, so it will look like it is invisible. Maybe not practical, but very cool.

As someone who drives to NYC frequently, the Freedom Tower is a bit of a letdown so far.

Certainly not as awesome as the Twin Towers.

Yes, I have a picture I took of them in 1988 on my wall.

Not one of the new buildings can compare with the Chrysler Building or The Empire State Building for beauty and majesty.
