All children in their first three years of primary school will be given free school meals in a £600 million ($9.5 million) giveaway meant to reduce the cost of living for parents, Nick Clegg has said.
The Liberal Democrat leader said that the new policy, which will take effect in September next year, will be worth more than £400 ($636) a year for each child aged five, six or seven.
Mr. Clegg said that the giveaway on school meals was part of the Coalitions bid to ease the strain on household finances. He told the BBC that all parents deserve some help with the cost of living from the State.

The money will come from the money tree that has been in the Tower of London since 1653AD.
household financial strains never includes taxes apparently
at least when buying votes
Just another way for parents to cede control over their kids. Hard to tell if that’s what parents really want, or if they just don’t realize what’s happening.
Nick’s buying!
God help them if Moochelle is planning their menus.
School cafeteria food is bad.
British food is very bad.
British school cafeteria food must be incredibly,
unbelievably bad.
Three years of processed industrial high-carb crap that will guarantee that they grow up stunted, sick, and stupid.
Once you star an entitlement....Day one of year four when the little darlings don’t get their “free” school meals the riots will begin.
Despite opinions to the contrary even the air we breathe comes and a cost of someone’s labor to provide the energy to maintain the breathing “machine”. Clegg at the very least meets and may well exceed the definition of the word idiot and it’s use being applicable to him. He certainly meets the first defined classification and likely the second as a matter of choice. His taking offense to that application is of his own doing.
Idiot:
1. A foolish or stupid person.
2. A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive.
Has the British pound devaluated that much? Should've joined the euro! /s
Man, the British economy really has fallen on hard times, hasn't it?
Whoops. That was meant to be $954 million. Thanks for catching that.
See #14. And if Clegg does get his way, I would say that the pound sterling will end up worse off than that.
That worked out to about 3 pounds.
Oh, I thought that was from the Telegraph. Never mind, then.
Don’t quite understand what the ‘Lib Dems’ are all about, though. Junior Liberal(?) partner to the Tories, but they always sound like the crazy-uncle-in-the-attic from what I read.
Middle class centre-left basically.
You prefer the Moobama menu? That's what gets thrown out.
The “Moobama menu” is full of high-carb crap. Pretty much anything that has “low-fat” on the label has added sugar. Hell, even low-fat (”skim”) milk has added sugar.
