It has been called the most popular rifle in America, and it's back in the spotlight after Monday's shooting at the Navy Yard: The AR-15.
Authorities said when Aaron Alexis unleashed a barrage of bullets Monday, he was carrying a rifle and a handgun. But he did most of the shooting with the weapon used in so many other rampages that shocked the nation:
List of 4 other shootings.

With Monday's incident, the gun will likely be in the crosshairs again. And again, it's likely nothing will change.

I own one of these shotguns. The layout and operating controls are indeed similar to the AR-15, with the exception of a bolt mounted operating handle on the right side, but the internal mechanics and operating system are more akin to to a Remington 1100 semi auto shotgun than an AR-15. I have two 10 round mags and two 5 round mags and the thing is as smooth as butter and really puts pellets down range FAST!!
Is that true?
I've never fired a rifle with 3-round burst capability, but I doubt that it would be described as "pop, pop, pop".
I would expect that the firing rate of the three rounds would match that of the firing rate of an early M-16 on full auto, which is 600 rounds per minute or ten rounds per second. You would have to say, "pop, pop, pop" pretty quickly to say it in one-third of a second.
Yikes; that’s gonna PO the gun grabbers.
Sweet piece of hardware.
“This incident would have ended quickly if just the uniformed personnel present had been armed.”
Or more likely would have never occurred. A gun free zone is the bullseye that these nut jobs aim for. Crime is where gun ownership is suppressed. Oh Chicago, DC,New Yowk, how stoopid are your ways.
The AR-15 article I posted this morning had a different headline than whats up there now; it was time-stamped at 3:29am; now its time-stamped at 8:59am, and CNN changed it.
I didn’t change the original headline I posted, or modify it.
I didnt save the original article, but I simply cut & pasted the headline from CNNs site at 5:14am. I had no idea that CNN would change it.
Had I known this would be an issue, I would have readily saved a copy to prove what was originally written.
In fact, the whole article has changed significantly, and is much larger/longer/different than it was at 5:14am, when I posted what was there.
Even the last line in the original article, which I “snipped” and pasted directly, is now gone.
It seems that since the news broke this morning, from the FBI, that an AR-15 wasn’t used in the Navy Yard shooting, CNN’s changed the article’s original anti-AR-15 slant.
I have been away since 8:45am this morning, and just getting back at 1:30pm to join the Rush thread, is when I learned of your admonishment to me, and that the original CNN article had be changed and re-time-stamped.
I’m not a writer or editor, so I don’t make things up.
I knew the rules here when I opened an account on 3/2/12, and would not abrogate them, and write headlines or body copy, on my own.
I’m sorry that this has caused problems on this FR thread. But CNN made the changes; I didn’t.
Ad Mod......did that clear that up ...cause you did not respond .....and the poster’s answer was ACCURATE to your request
That seems more credible than c_h changing the original title. c_h is honest as the day is long, CNN isn't. What you have here is FR has yet again found bias in the media, AM you should delete your admonishment post and celebrate that fact IMHO.
I’m late to the party, but it appears the STASI strikes again!!/s
Who knows if they’re even allowed to keep their weapons loaded when on duty. Did this guy have the time and opportunity to case the joint and find their weaknesses, or did he just get ‘lucky?’ That’s what I’d like to know.
[F]ederal law enforcement sources told CNN Tuesday that authorities have recovered three
weapons from the scene of the mass shooting, including one a shotgun that investigators
believe [shooter Aaron] Alexis brought in to the compound. The other two weapons, which sources
say were handguns, may have been taken from guards at the Navy complex.
The sources, who have detailed knowledge of the investigation, cautioned that initial
information that an AR-15 was used in the shootings may have been incorrect. It is believed
that Alexis had rented an AR-15, but returned it before Monday mornings shootings. Authorities
are still investigating precisely how many weapons Alexis had access to and when.
cat got your tongue ?
Here is the CNN article's original title, still time stamped at 8:36am, before they rewrote it at 8:59am.
Here's the CNN article's author's (Ben Brumfield, CNN) page, using the original title & article I posted, referring to "16 hours ago", which would put it around 3:30am.
When I posted at 5:14am, the article was time stamped 3:29am. Still showing "Updated (rewritten) 8:59am".
The author's site with original headline I posted
FYI (For Your Information)
Again, sorry that CNN's both jumped the shark and screwed the pooch, by scrubbing the title and body copy, including my < SNIP> at end, which was last sentence in article.
We're still looking thru Google and other archives to find the entire original article, which is probably sasnitized.

My sincerest apologies. You were absolutely correct.
Thank you; I appreciate your magnanimous attitude in saying that.

FBI Washington field office just confirmed gunman was NOT armed with AR15. Spokesperson says 1 shotgun and 2 pistols recovered Pamela Brown (@PamelaBrownCNN) September 17, 2013
When I read that CNN article early in the morning yesterday, it was an anti-AR15 diatribe; they had to eat crap and rewrite the entire article/headline after the FBI announced the truth. Typical lib-dem gun-grabber scumbags. Wish I’d saved a copy of it; it was nasty.
Next, we may find out this left wing serial killer was killed by an AR15.
