Seventy-four percent of Americans think teachers make less than they really do, according to a new poll from Rasmussen. The average teacher salary in America is $55,000 (upward of $75,000 in Chicago), but three quarters of Americans think teachers earn less than that.
Over half of Americans (52 percent) believe teachers are paid too little. Just 15 percent believe they are paid too much while 26 percent think teachers are paid the right amount.
In a related poll, just 26 percent of Americans give public schools positive marks.

Not to mention they get a lot of time off each year. Teacher I know take another job during those months ... and generous benefits.
I have relatives who are teachers, most could not hack it in the real world.
come on in the water is nice and warm, show us how it is done.
The same is probably true for cops. I often hear how little they are paid...

But they have Bill Ayers approved “credentials”. How dare you disparage the humble teacher.
Point proven. Check and Mate. You never have to prove that a person is intellectually challenged, all you have to do is let them talk.
The Unionization of Public Employees is a self-serving money-laundering operation of the Democrat Party, period.
UNTIL we get Unions OUT of the public sector, Democrats will continue the ever-increasing increases in spending of taxpayer earnings on the ever-decreasing quality of the Indoctrination Centers (aka: pulik skoolz)
Anyone who actually believes that Bill Ayers has anything to do with any teachers credentials line up here in the factually and intellectually impaired line. We have just established a leader for that kind of thinking.
That is probably true (that most work summer jobs). But they get paid for that work in addition to their teachers 9 month salary. Overpaid, overly generous retirement benefits and generally mediocre performance.

Not in Central FL. I substitute, and my day is 7 1/2 hours, and I don't have to do any planning. Most teachers I know work a lot more than six hours a day.
Well ya see, a lot of jobs are not *comfi* in the nice and warm in the winter and not *comfi* in the A/C cool in the summer.
A lot of jobs are not 6-7 hours a day, why some are even 12-16 hours a day.
Some jobs are 24 hour call and some 24/7 operations there ain't no such thing as holidays.
Teachers, cry me a river.
Like I said, I have relatives who are teachers, you ain't going to BS me.
Sorry, but my sister & brother-in-law are teachers, and you won’t get much support from me.
Truck drivers are generally more productive, serve a more valuable role, are treated like dirt by folks like you, and work MUCH longer hours with far fewer creature comforts. They have more responsibility than teachers, since people can die when they screw up.
Teaching requires the ability to breath during education classes. I took enough to know, before getting my BS in biology. I don’t dislike teachers, but I despise teacher snobs who don’t respect others. And in the world of modern trucking, with GPS tracking, making $65K/year is an uphill battle, to say the least. My son tried it and he made under $1000/month.

You’re an idiot.
As far as I’m concerned teachers should be private contractors. The best will write their own meal tickets and the worst can flip burgers.
Here in Virginia, we are not required to belong to the Union. About half of my fellow teachers don't. Most that do belong do it for the inexpensive insurance.
As I told others here. Come on in the water is warm. I would love to see those that think they have it more difficult than teachers give it a try.
I worked in industry for years before getting my teaching credentials.
Going to be a lot of burger flippers from what I have seen :)
