Also check the internet - Suthamtewakul isn’t such a rare name, there are other people going by that name, and they are Thai.
Thailand has a minority of Muslims too, but the Thai ones tend to have Islamic elements in their names.

Very real. In fact there was a lot of pressure for them to change the name. They held a referendum on it a few years ago, and basically the voters told them to "pound sand" and they kept the name.
