Costs, believe it or not rent-a-cops are a lot cheaper than even that fresh out of boot camp E-1. So you very rarely see military manning the security posts at most bases any more.

The federal courthouse in CT uses armed guards from a private contractor. I haven't been inside the courthouse in ten years but I think they still use the same company.

i’m paying for the E-1 each and everyday, whether they’re in combat or home on base. for those on base, it’d make sense for some to pull guard duty. to use outside labor for guard duty would be to increase costs... while also leaving the security of the military base up to someone other then the military (which would leave them vulnerable to attack, obviously)
