So when Hildabeast is in the White House for 8 years and Jeb Bush goes to the White House for 8 years after her, will you still proclaim America is “exceptional?”

If that happens, I will die of a broken heart, to see my country stoop so low.

America was exceptional back when de Tocqueville said it was and it remained exceptional for about a century. The US is now just another over-regulated, overtaxed, oppressive welfare state with total surveillance and unlimited presidential authority thrown in for good measure. Its written Constitution has been rendered a dead letter and its laws are not evenly applied. America is no longer exceptional except in its ability to project military force and its squandered legacy of liberty.

For an American to insist that America is now exceptional in any other regard is really pretty pathetic. It reminds me of this:

Stuart Smalley

Stuart Smalley needs to get a grip, and so do many Americans.

The fact is that American politicians and the Americans who elected them have squandered America's philosophical, moral, and economic capital, and it started decades before the sharp decline of late. Things will not get better until Americans realize the mess they have made and resolve to fix it.
