People are free to run their families as they wish, but personally, I find the idea of a three-year-old flipping through netflix and youtube videos a little disturbing.

I can’t disagree with that. But, OTOH, I’m sure the authors purpose was to paint a picture of the Chroomecast as being so easy to use that a child can use it.

And, being the grandfather of the worlds most beautiful 3 year old, I am constantly reminded of how easy these young kids adapt to technology that was first seen on Earth less than 5 years ago.
