I'd still prefer a Roku 3, even if it lacks the ability to play back YouTube videos. Here's the reason why: a Roku 3 can access hundreds of channels of online video, something the Chromecast can't do. And with a very fast Internet connection, you get just about HD quality video, too.

I'm not familiar with the Roku 3. The big advantage of the Chromecast is that you can search for content on an iPad or similar device. You have a mouse and a keyboard in your lap. That really is the difference between Chromecast and other devices: It gets rid of a traditional remote as your interface to your TV and replaces it with a fully functional computer.
Can Roku do that?
