India and Russia have been doing the military-cooperation mambo since Nehru and Nikita K. were running their respective countries. Until the Cold War ended, most of India’s fighters were MiGs, many produced under license in Indian factories.
Many of India’s fighters are still Russian, though there are more Sukhois now. And they’re still produced in Indian factories. Their engine plant is a couple hours away from me in a closed city.
