Now you’re talking some sense. If we were to get even 10% of the population to open carry across the board, violent crime would largely be a thing of the past.
I doubt if blacks ever will trust the justice system under any foreseeable scenario. Too much history and a damn fool drug war to boot. But its not really completely necessary that they do. Give them less reason to have to rely on it and it’ll be an improvement in all of our lives.
Acceptable outcome. Killing someone isn’t a pleasant experience. Better than being killed is about all that can be said for it.
I happen to like this forum just fine. If the heat gets too hot for you, you’re always free to go run to jimrob.
No reason to be an ass toward people based on their specific reason that they fear for their safety.
You skillfully begged the question, and prompted an obvious one.
Why didn't you say simply, "Just do it and stop worrying about it?" Sheesh.
Even children would be able to answer the question.
“I know. Sad state of affairs when liberal hellholes like Delaware have better gun freedoms that Texas. So whats the latest excuse from your legislature?”
Don’t know why Texas hasn’t gone open carry, but also don’t know why anyone feels the need to. Tennessee has open carry , but I don’t choose too. I also will not ever apply for a permit. I’ll carry on my own terms. No advance warning for prospective perps.
Sooner or later, black thugs will pick on the wrong white person.
Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. It will be a horror not seen in a while.
“Now youre talking some sense. If we were to get even 10% of the population to open carry across the board, violent crime would largely be a thing of the past.”
Some places nearly 10% of the population have CCW permits. It seems to work almost as well.
“Dont know why Texas hasnt gone open carry, but also dont know why anyone feels the need to.”
Texas has had some real issues on gun stuff and I really don’t understand it. It took the Luby shooting for them to get concealed carry. Their permit is one of the more expensive and more difficult to obtain, and then there is the intransigence on open carry. I like Texas in general: good people. But I just don’t get it on the gun stuff.
Any way, as for open carry, I can think of several reasons for doing so. First and most selfish is that it’s more comfortable and you don’t have to fool with all sorts of concealment hardware. Second and I think most important is the deterrent effect it has on potential perps. Concealed carry has less of a deterrent effect because by definition no one knows. We want to reinforce the idea that there are a lot of people out there with guns. OC does that. Third, if you think about it most perps are opportunists. The most successful gunfight in my view is the one that is completely avoided because the perp walks the other way. Fourth is the innoculation effect on the non-gun folks. Finally, there is something to be said for tweaking the grabbers a bit. I could go on but that gives you a start.
I wanted to make sure and say thank you for posting that. That’s a compelling story and I hope you do tell it to others. There’s nothing like pulling out the x-ray and saying “here is why.”
Unfortunately, my tale is the murder of a family member. Folks don’t like to hear about those sorts of things.
“And it’s not such a small minority. Wikipedia gives a 29% chance of a black born in the USA in 1991 of seeing jail time. That’s not ‘relatively small’.”
And that means 71% won’t see any jail time. Do we damn the 71% for the acts of the 29%? And to go a little further, what were the 29% in there for? Drugs? DUI? Or violent crimes? To be certain we all recognize that blacks commit violent crimes at a significantly higher rate than whites. But it’s not like we can or will be able to use that information for much.
“Black racism is not thinly veiled, and people are sick of it.”
Agreed. And two wrongs still don’t make a right.
“I think we are seeing a reaction to blatant favoritism of affirmative action for nearly everyone except white males, the constant drumbeat of excuses for bad actions on the part of black people, and the direct attack on merit.”
Agreed.
“The fact that a person who is approached on the street is statistically far more likely to be attacked by a black man than a white man is called racism, even though it is true.”
It is true. However as I’ve been saying all night, this knowledge doesn’t do you a whole lot of good. I live in a city that is roughly 1/2 white and 1/2 black. I have to interact with black people every day of the week. The fact that I “know” that a black person is more statistically likely to harm me and mine doesn’t do me a heck of a lot of good.
“What is needed is effective and evenhanded application of justice. The fact that this does not occur in the urban centers run mostly by liberals is a national disgrace.”
Our justice system is an absolute disgrace. And I don’t see improvement coming. When something isn’t fixable, and I don’t see that it our justice system is, the second best option is to avoid it or find something else that works. Again, that speaks to a DIY approach.
“Black people cannot depend on the criminal justice system in the urban centers. This feeds on itself and results in more criminality, with the results seen.”
It’s also viewed as unjust from their perspective. Again, I don’t see it as fixable. When it isn’t fixable, you avoid it or figure out something else that works.
RE Open Carry:
We have OC in Pennsylvania. I’ve carried openly a few times, and the local mounties give it a glance and leave it at that. Not so in Philadelphia; ThugRamsey’s boys in blue harassed the hell out of a guy doing open carry a few years ago - and the guy actually schooled them on it as they threatened to shoot him (!!!), got them to call Ramsey himself, who reluctantly agreed that yes, it IS legal. You could just hear Ramsey grinding his teeth over it, because he is a REAL POS.
But I prefer to carry concealed. No reason to mark yourself. That’s just my preference. Got it if I need it, that’s all that matters.
Part of being a Sheepdog is not freaking out the sheep.
Their permit is one of the more expensive and more difficult to obtain,
It’s a must issue state, it’s not difficult at all.
Approximately one out of three black males has been incarcerated for felonious offenses at some point in his life. 33% isn't exactly a small minority. It's a figure demonstrating that violence, criminality, and indigence is a deeply engrained part of American black culture.
The politically correct, multicultural wing of "conservatism" can whine and call it "thinly veiled racism" all they want, but I just call it facing facts.
It buys us the knowledge to cut off their welfare funding, the affirmative action programs, "head start" programs, school lunches, busing, the selectively enforced "hate crime" and "hate speech" laws, and other economic and legal gifts that we give to a group of people who literally bite the hand that feeds them.
Let me rephrase that, if I may. No UARMED white person in their right mind would go into an area that’s primarily black.
I never feel “threatened” because I am prepared.
However, I am on guard and practice my 7 yard rule in any public place such as a shopping mall inhabited by a bunch of whiggers wearing their pants half way down to their knees.
Or, street white street bums that line the walls of some “white” areas.
Being is a “white” area does not make you safe especially if you are a lady. My wife practices what I practice as well.
A relatively small amount of muslims (percentage wise) want to engage in global jihad, to kill all infidels.
But a massive number tacitly or materially support them.
Same situation here.
