Americans want diplomacy on Syria, are unmoved by Obama speech: Reuters/Ipsos poll

Three-quarters of Americans support efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria through an international agreement to control chemical weapons, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll that shows steady opposition to U.S. military action.

The poll of 776 Americans, conducted over three days this week, indicates that just 25 percent of Americans oppose diplomacy to deal with the crisis that was ignited by the August 21 chemical attack in a Damascus suburb that U.S. officials say killed more than 1,400 adults and children.

The survey reflects the anti-war sentiment that has shadowed President Barack Obama's request for congressional authorization for a military strike against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government in light of the chemical attack.

The United States has blamed Assad's government for the attack, while Russia and Assad say it was the work of rebel forces.

An offer by Russia, an ally of Syria, to help put Syria's stock of chemical weapons under international control has raised the possibility of an agreement that could help Obama avoid an embarrassing rejection from a skeptical Congress, or an unpopular military action.

I guess I'd have to put myself in the 25 percent. I oppose diplomacy. I oppose spending an iota of our resources, time, diplomats, in dealing with this civil war between islamic terrorists and an islamic dictator (albeit one who seems to deal with the local Christians in a reasonable manner ... relative to the rest of that area). I will just cheer for the thug Assad from afar -- but our Government/tax-dollars should stay out of it.

Obviously, part of the problem, is no one trusts Obama and his marxist advisors to wage any kind of war. The man has screwed up everything he touches in the Middle East and has gotten more of our soldiers killed in Afghanistan than during the entire war during the Bush years. 75% increase in soldier fatalities due to Obama’s ROE!!

But the main problem is that Americans understand that we would be helping Al Qaeda!!

Gives me a tiny bit of hope that not all Americans are stark raving mad Marxists.

Attempting to impose or implement democracy without first growing a liberal society and economy is madness.

There is no ANTI WAR sentiment... there is distrust and disbelief because we can clearly see that intervention in syria is not in the best interest of the United States. Now get a plan together to join with Israel to wipe out the nuke industry in iran and you will get a majority of Americans willing to go along. That will never happen and the reasons for it never happening is exactly why the majority of Americans are against taking Military action against syria at this time. We no longer trust the US government and we no longer believe anything obama or his people say. Too many times we have been lied to and without any consequences to the liars.

obama opened his big punk mouth and overloaded his reggie love arse!
