The police chief should be canned for making comments that compromised a case.
I wonder if a couple of thugs came upon the chief, civilian clothes and unarmed in his car and stated beating him, would he just “take it”? I doubt it, but wouldn’t it be poetic.
Suggested outcome of trial, if guilty: Beat them to death with large flashlights?
