I have the same reaction to this as I would if the races were reversed - who cares?? It shouldn’t matter if he punched the guy because he was white, because he was trying to rob him, because he didn’t like how he was walking, or because he just felt like punching someone. The only facts that matter are that he punched the guy, the guy fell, and the guy died. Murder is murder, and hate crime charges are BS, regardless of who is charged.
I agree that the whole concept of a "hate crime" is politicized BS that has no place in the justice system. That being said, as long as these laws ARE (unfortunately) on the books, they should at least be consistently enforced, so that you don't have blacks or other minorities as a de facto protected class of criminals (i.e. whites can be charged with a murder plus additional hate crime charges, while black murders are immune to the additional charges).
