Are you nuts, Mr. Putin? The United States is exceptional

President Putin, the United States is exceptional among the world’s nations.

This is not the usual jingoism you may hear from the citizen of any nation – the type of jingoism, incidentally, in which Russia excels.

Instead, Mr. President, take it from someone whose family fled your country over 30 years ago because of religious and ethnic persecution.

My parents and I arrived in the United States with $90 in our pockets, speaking not a word of English and stripped of any nation’s citizenship. And yet we came here because the United States is exceptional in the opportunities it has provided to generations of those who arrived at its ports with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the drive to succeed as Americans.

We came here because life in the Soviet Union, which you served so faithfully as a KGB colonel, was incompatible with basic human dignity.

We came here because generations of our family had been killed, abused and disenfranchised simply because of our religious identity.

To us, what was exceptional was that a world power would provide a new life for us without asking about our ethnicity, whether we were members of the right political party or whether we associated with those who spoke out against the government.

That the United States asked us none of these things is what makes it exceptional – and what made the former Soviet Union, which you served so proudly, unexceptional in its generations-long oppressive nature.

There is not, coincidentally, a mass movement of any oppressed ethnic or religious minority to flee the United States, to Russia or anywhere else.

“all men are created equal”

Yes they are “created” so...how they choose to develope their life is up to their choices... and those choices can make good men bad or bad men good.....neither of which are equal.

Even from a distance the fact that the USA is exceptional should never be in dispute. It cannot be argued though that everything that comes out of the USA is exceptional - case in point the rubbish that comes out of Obama’s mouth. The author of the piece tries to take Putin to task for cautioning Obama over Syria and somehow correlates this with Russia dissing the USA. Is this Fox news shilling for Obama?

Watching Putin and Obama handle this situation is no different then watching the Syrian fighters fight one another....both are equally bad men.

The most “exceptional” thing about America in 2013 is our support of unrestricted abortion and, increasingly, homosexual marriage and homosexual adoption.

Russia is on the right side of the “gay rights” issue — the side that the US used to be on, when we were “exceptional” in the best sense.

“Putin seems quite supportive of the UN”

Of course..because Russia and China have control there. The UN serves the US in no way whatsoever. It’s a useless group of nation leaders where corruption rules.

While I agree with you on the abortion and other issues I was talking about the USA in her history, capacity for goodness and potential for the future - the USA has it’s problems - some of those problems are ugly and stain her robe but she still remains, potentially (as far as a country can be) the world’s best hope.

We don't need Putin to warn us about anything....he said nothing we haven't already determined without his statements.

What Putin does see is a weak President and leadership ...he understands nations require leadership and when there is none it creates a vacuum.....that is where we are and he is more than willing to fill it.

The UN has never been more than a pain in our side...and never will be...so why should their advice... Because Putin says so?.. Come on...the American people don’t want our nation to be involved with Syria and have made that crystal clear.....that should be enough for us all without the UN approval or not....and certainly without anything Putin might think we need to hear.

Don’t be so hard on yourself...we’ve all been watching Putin take Obama to task and that’s been worth the show...both men are bad...we know this...that doesn’t mean that when they are boxing it out we can’t see the difference between ‘a leader’ of a country and ‘a community organizer’ in way over his head.

Putin is preying on the american citizen now because, he knows we know what a lousy leader we have.....that makes us vulnerable to propaganda distortions and Putin has a hat full....remember his idol is Stalin.

Putin wasn’t speaking to Americans. He was speaking to leftists. Two different things, regardless of place of birth.

The leftists agree completely with Putin, and all his ilk, on the subject.

Putin is mocking obama - who spent his first term traveling the world apologizing for the Americans who thought America was exceptional

Not to mention other democrats who believed the same thing, like Clinton’s SecState Albright, talking about a “multipolar” world and giggling and groveling to the leader of North Korea?

Remember obama talking about a more “humble” America that was going to “listen”

well, the democrats have succeeded and now we get to see the world that results

obama in 2009

Is America exceptional?
“Well sure .... but so is every country... yada yada”

obama downplayed American “exceptionalism” at every global gathering and the MEdia swooned over him for it
http://cedarlounge.wordpress.com/2009/04/28/obama-and-the-issue-of-american-exceptionalism/

Now Mr “we’re got to build partnerships” is all pissy because none of his global partners will play nice with him and go bomb Syria together - so he’s back to threatening he’ll go to war alone because America is “exceptional”

Putin has been listening and his remarks about “exceptionalism” are a direct dig at the pompous wuss Obama trying to do a 180

Putin WAY overplayed his hand. Given that both he and Obama are narcissistic monsters, this is no surprise. Given that both he and Obama are in command of two of the three most powerful nations on the planet, this is terrifying.

Not so sure that he overplayed anything - he is trying to goad Zero into stupid actions. Nobody in their right mind believes that Zero meant the exceptionalism sound bytes - he hates the exceptionalism that defined this once-great Nation and will quote/misquote any banal remarks that he thinks will pull us together behind his ego.

It’s not just Obama. Government at every level has thrown out the principles that allowed our country to become great. We have already become centrally planned nation. No area of our lives is beyond government scrutiny and government’s primary concern is creating crony capitalistic opportunities. Exceptional America died with the new deal and our trust of the federal government that sprung up after WWII.

He would have been much LESS likely to say this even 6 years ago. It isn’t yet broken, but the NEW cracks are showing. (...for which it stood?)

That is a chilling image. Putin’s stare has Obama in his power, absolutely.

Putin has what Hitler had: cold blue eyes of pure evil.

The United States is exceptional

Used to be but now? What part is exceptional? I guess it depends on how you define the United States. I certainly see nothing exceptional in our current state of affairs or political leaders.

And obuma has the dead, black eyes of Satan’s serpent.

Ever notice how flies hang around obuma?
