So my Ruger 10/22 is illegal and I am a criminal for owning one.

As I understand it, it will be illegal to sell or transfer a Ruger 10/22 in California, but not to own one that you legally possessed prior to the adoption of the law in question. Mind you, you will have to register it with the CA government as a dreaded "assault weapon" or you will be a criminal.

You will be harassed whenever you are seen with the gun, though. You will be asked to prove that it’s grandfathered. Busy bodies who see you with it will call the police.

Then I would be a criminal. There shall be no ex post facto laws.
