DETROIT (WWJ) A major power outage is affecting Wayne State University, the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, the City-County building, the Detroit Historical Museum, and the People Mover in downtown Detroit.
Some institutional public lighting customers are experiencing service interruption caused by extreme heat, cable failure, and routine maintenance all combining causing system overload, said Robert Warfield, a spokesman for the Detroit Mayors Office.
Wayne State spokesperson Jessica Archer said the campus would be closed for the rest of the day, Wednesday, after about half of all buildings maybe 40 or 50 lost power. She said they would decide later about Thursdays schedule.
Passengers aboard the People Mover were being directed off at the nearest station. The People Mover is closed until further notice.

You’re supposed to turn the lights off AFTER the people leave.
The hits just keep coming.
Get used to it.
There are no passengers on the People Mover. There never have been.
I had to read a little more closely to see they don’t mean just “lighting,” but electrical usage in general. There aren’t a lot of lights burning in the middle of the day. If it’s hot, the A/C must have been running pretty hard.
Maybe they tried to use their “Time Machine”
“If you have 1 bucket with 2 gallons and 1 bucket with 4 gallons, how many buckets you got?”
Yeah, that’s it. Turn off all the street lights, the ones that haven’t been shot out. That will certainly make the last dozen people leave.
Detroit is just the 2nd half of “Atlas Shrugged” shifted somewhat west.
Now, they can all go "shopping" (loot with impunity) with alarm systems down.
The Report on the Pensions came out.
Yikes.....
Overpayed out principle as a "Bonus" ( Like the big 3 used to give out ) when the Markets were a smokin' with a 13th Check to Pensioners and Extra Annuity money for those in the process of building their nest egg and it took away from the principle nest egg, instead of rolling it back into the pot.
Total payouts? To the tune of 932 Million if my memory is correct over a number of years...
This is on top of the bad investments by Kawame Kronies....
A/C is going full tilt. It is HOT here in Michigan today, unexpectedly so. ‘Course by Friday we will have autumn.
Thug city probably has not paid their electric bill in months.
I am not sure if the city is still in the utility bidness, or they got out and or did DTE buy the grid. Anway I know the grids structure is in very rough shape, CrippleCreek care to chime in?
What happened to shovel ready? A trillion here a trillion there couldn’t upgrade a city powergrid? What next? Innefecient government?
The blue states and cities voted for obama to destroy the country, but they ended up destroying only themselves.
System overload....or did a crackhead steal some critical copper
These are specific (Mostly municipal) buildings that appear to be part of a separate city operated utility. Residential and private buildings don’t appear to be affected.
My brother in law works right downtown in the Compuware building and he’s says his office was unaffected.

If you zoom in on the outage map it appears to be specific buildings only.
