DETROIT (WWJ) A major power outage is affecting Wayne State University, the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, the City-County building, the Detroit Historical Museum, and the People Mover in downtown Detroit.
Some institutional public lighting customers are experiencing service interruption caused by extreme heat, cable failure, and routine maintenance all combining causing system overload, said Robert Warfield, a spokesman for the Detroit Mayors Office.
Wayne State spokesperson Jessica Archer said the campus would be closed for the rest of the day, Wednesday, after about half of all buildings maybe 40 or 50 lost power. She said they would decide later about Thursdays schedule.
Passengers aboard the People Mover were being directed off at the nearest station. The People Mover is closed until further notice.

The only Section 8 client I know has to pay her own utilities. So the A/C and often heating is usually left off or only used minimally.
Simple solutions:
All the welfare laureates should go out and blow at the windmills. No spitting, this is clean renewable electricity.
Enviromentablists use the solar panels, bring the flash lights and shine them on the solar panels.
One happy commieunity!
I can hear thunder north of us (Washtenaw County). Wind is picking up and it is really dark.
Stay safe, CC.
Since all electrical bills are paid for by the city tax payers in the ghettos and public housing, it truly is public lighting!
It wasn’t too bad. Lots of thunder and wind.
Sounds like another round on the way.
Friday night’s forecast low is 36, LOL. And I got fried at the beach yesterday!
Awfully close to frost temps.
Like they say: if you don’t like the weather in Michigan wait 10 minutes and it will change.
They took down most of their streetlights and stuff, how could it be overload now?
