Putin Didn't Save Obama, He Beat Him
The Weekly Standard ^ | Sep 10, 2013 | Lee Smith

Maybe Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin really did discuss the idea of putting Syrian chemical weapons under international control last week on the sidelines of the G20 conference. Putin sure doesn’t care that Obama’s taking credit for the proposal, or that the administration is posturing like a Mob enforcer. “The only reason why we are seeing this proposal,” said White House spokesman Jay Carney, “is because of the U.S. threat of military action.”

Right, Putin is laughing to himself. Whatever. If Obama wants to sell it like a Christmas miracle on Pennsylvania Avenue that’s fine with Putin, because Putin won.

Reset with Russia was originally a strategic priority for the Obama administration because it saw Moscow as the key to getting Iran to come to the negotiating table. Putin, from the White House’s perspective, was destined for the role of junior partner. Now Putin has turned “Reset” upside down. By helping Obama out of a jam with Syria, Putin has made himself the senior partner to whom the White House is now beholden. Accordingly, when Putin proposes the same sort of deal with Iran, with Russia having established its bona fides as an interlocutor for Syria, Obama is almost certain to jump at it.

What’s unclear is whether Obama understands that his foreign policy legacy will be to have ruined the American position in the Middle East, our patrimony of the last seven decades. If the 1979 takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran signaled weakness, the Russian deal screams surrender. The real surprise is that it’s not Iran kicking the United States out of the region under Obama’s watch, but Putin. . . .

It's a theory, not a person. It doesn't have "desires".

No, of course not. But theorists do.

....”at the end of the day all factions are angry with us”.....

Of course they are and are opposed to us no matter what we do....they are not our friends. 90% of the fighters there are Islamists....that makes us infidels.

You cannot appease those people are help them and expect anything different then what their history continues to show....they hate Americans except when they can use them.

“, the spirit or soul is what has the power of free will and choice”

Spirited: Free will is ultimately about the choice between self or God. Our Lord will ultimately honor the choice of the spirit/soul that persistently chooses self, which means it rejects eternity in Paradise in favor of the only alternative: outer darkness. During an OBE Jung had a foretaste of his choice when he found himself in Hell.

....”Obama thinks that rhetoric trumps reality — but the fact is, it doesn’t. Putin does not suffer from that illusion”....

Keystone cops is exactly right Bet....BO and his advisors are way in over their head and this because they imagine they can control any who stand in their way by bribes fearmongering and a host of other venues they use here in the US.....Russia is not the US... Putin knows how to play the incompetent very well.

I understand that, but I think ad hominem arguments are something to be avoided, particulary in the arena of scientific theory.

Its actually the truth. That quote is almost straight out of Peter Schiff. Pretty much everyone who are believers of Austrian economics (far right economics) subscribe to this view

Indeed. But the point that he molecules don’t get to choose remains. The exercise of morality is always to choose beteen good and evil. The molecules cannot choose, so I cannot reconcile attributing morality to what they do.

Similar to the Spanish Civil War, there are three sides in this conflict: AQ/MB (with clandestine American support via Turkey), Assad, and the FSA (now with a grudging and pathetic show of American support).

So then as usual even Putins quotes are borrowed? It would seem so.

What he belives in the cards he’s playing now and what his reality is are two different things.

He is out to win this and has no use for the American people nor his own people in the outcome.

It is one thing to enjoy seeing Putin take Obama to task...and another for some to think or believe Putin is in any way a good man who has any concern for this country or it’s people.

In what way is it an ad hominum argument to simply quote a man's public statement?

To what do you attribute his stance against the homosexuals in defense of the churches?

Anyone who subscribe to Austrian economics are good ppl imho, because its the free-ist of all school of economics. He is only stating the obvious about the state of US economy which is a parasite economy that lives beyond its mean. Look at the huge US national debt and annual deficit.

There are more players then just Assad and the Fighters who oppose him and/or those supporting either side....

Syria is being fought on a much higher level then the ground..or the political show we are watching.

No matter how this plays Assad is done. Currently he is simply a temporary placeholder only.. and the minion's on the ground to keep him occupied.

That depends on the context. Was he quoted in the context of a discussion about the theory, and is the statement about the theory?
