A 62-year-old man who was brutally attacked in Union Square last week died Monday.
On Wednesday, a man shouting that he hated white people punched victim Jeffrey Babbitt who is white in the face, witnesses said, causing him to fall and strike his head on the ground.
Lashawn Marten, 31, who is black, made statements to the effect that Im going to punch the first white man that I see, said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.

After punching Babbitt, Marten allegedly attacked two other men who came to Babbitts aid, police said. Police were investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
Paramedics took Babbitt to Bellevue Hospital, where he lapsed into a coma and was pronounced brain-dead by doctors.
Babbitt was a longtime resident of the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn, where neighbors and friends were shocked by news of the assault. Everybodys broken up about this, neighbor Audrey Feifer, 75, told Newsday. If you had to go to the doctor or anywhere, he would take you.
Babbitt reportedly lived with his 94-year-old mother Lucille, and was described by those who knew him as being obsessed with trains and comic books.
Marten has been charged with second- and third-degree assault and will go before a grand jury Tuesday, the Manhattan D.A.s office told PIX11 Monday.
Martens charges may be upgraded at that time.
“No indications that it was a racial or terrorist thing”, right Fuzzy? Just another minor “random” killing.
if you’re white and living in those liberal cities, you best adopt the Bernhard Goetz defense strategy
or end up bleeding out curbside
Who said there were no indications it was a racial thing?
Funny, that's almost exactly what the New York Times said:
Mr. Babbitt was walking through Union Square near Forbidden Planet last Wednesday when he was punched in the face seemingly at random by an assailant who, the police said, declared his intention to punch the first white man I see....
In a neighborhood that had long ago moved past its rough-and-tumble days, the seemingly random act of violence at 3 p.m. in a bustling park came as a shock.
I added the boldface.
These days it is impossible to parody the left. They are always worse than we imagine them to be.

What behaviors make something a ‘hate crime’ in NYC?
Now, I am against thoughtcrime statutes, but if this isn’t a hate crime I’m a progressive.
What behaviors make something a hate crime in NYC?
Easy, white on black crime... other way around doesn’t count.
It’s weird, they use , “hate crime,” in the headline, but they don’t use the word, “hate crime,” in the article. I wonder if their style guide allows something in the headline, not referred to in the article?
taking all bets, no hate crime charges filed.....
Open season on whites, but some are to cowardly to realize it.
Just think, he died to provide amusement for a Negro.
. . . brain dead . . .
Welllll .. I hope so. These days, you never know ~
I am in no way saying he deserved it but I’d be willing to bet $50 on who Babbitt voted for.
“Just think, he died to provide amusement for a Negro.”
Well put; I was shocked when this story was originally announced on the news (radio, complete with details), and not surprised when it quickly disappeared. Another victim of the unassimilated contraband...

What a stupid thing to say.
Stupid thought.
