MOSCOW, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Russian lawmaker Gennady Zyuganov called on the international community to prevent a looming Western military strike against Syria, saying it would plunge the whole region into conflict.
"Everyone should oppose that war because this is not a question of Syria. If Syria is destroyed, the flames will spread into Lebanon," Zyuganov, also leader of Russia's Communist Party, told a press conference Thursday.
"It seems Obama has wavered and drifted," he said.
President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with Channel 1 TV and the Associated Press published on the Kremlin website Wednesday that any unilateral military action against the Syrian government without the UN Security Council's sanction was "an aggression and absurd."
Meanwhile, he said Russia would take "decisive and serious action" on Syria if objective, undeniable evidence of the government's use of chemical weapons existed.
The Russian government will say just about anything to help Iran get lots of nukes built and mounted, but they won’t do anything against our U.S. forces.
