You seem to be really “up” on the weapons capabilities... What capabilities do the Syrians AND the Russians have to shoot down incoming Tomahawks?

Do we know to what degree Assad has been able to move assets into either hardened facilities, or into civilian areas?

What are Iran’s capabilities to respond to US at this point (beyond Hezbollah-type activities)? I recall that Iran had obtained / was supposedly trying to upgrade North Korean BM-25’s, I believe?

Surely there is somewhat more risk, esp. if the Russians have any capability to track our planes.

There is so much in what is coming out of the Administration regarding the military intent & results of a U.S. hit on Syria that is (given a modicum of thought) contradictory, wishful thinking, or just plain silly, that I hardly know what to make of it, unless it is all “misdirection” of some sort.

One of the ships in this story is the Petr Velikiy (a Kirov) missile cruiser is the “large anti-submarine ship” from the Northern Fleet. Technically she is an all around combatant capable of dealing with nearly every threat.

One likely scenario. Our warships launch Tomahawks at Syrian targets. Russian warships closer to Syria launch interceptor missiles to try to shoot them down. Our warships see these Russian missile launches and think they are being attacked. They launch missiles at the Russian warships. The Russian warships see the inbound missiles and launch their missiles at the American warships. World War Three ensues.

Didn't we knock down an Iranian passenger jet in similar circumstances some years back?
