McCain’s just dying to get us into another war. We were told that the goal here is not regime change. That’s a lie. The goal is to weaken and degrade Assad’s military to the point where he gets thrown out. The CIA already trains Syrian rebels. This is just what we used to call an “escalation”.

One Democrat voted “Present”, which is somewhat ironic.

What Corker says is a misrepresentation.

Will is correct, but it has ceased to be a laughing matter, unless the laughing is rueful.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee was kabuki theatre at its best. They knew how this would play out, good buddies John & John. McCain would threaten to pull his vote unless his amendments were approved. Where did Coons backing suddenly come from? What sweet deal was he offered?

Predictably, McCain/(Coons) amendments were adopted ... by voice vote. No member would go on record.

“What Corker says is a misrepresentation.”

Care to elaborate? BS, yes, but misrepresentation?

Corker Says Committee Action Supports Limited, But Appropriate Action Against Syria
Wednesday, September 04, 2013

(snip)

“None of us want the U.S. mired down in another conflict, so the committee has significantly limited the president’s original authorization, while still providing for an appropriate use of force in response to Assad’s use of chemical weapons. It prevents boots on the ground, limits the duration of any military action, and requires a progress report on the administration’s overall Syria policy.

“As we now move to the full Senate, the American people deserve a full and open debate about U.S. interests in Syria.”

I didn’t see a laughing part. The only people I see laughing are the repositioned hacks who were re-summonsed to the WH to advise Obama. Axelrod sneered for them all: “Congress is the dog that just caught the car.”

"Where did Coons backing suddenly come from? What sweet deal was he offered?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Good points!
To emphasize a point I made in my post. Remember Cairo speech? So arrogant, few realized the breadth of arrogance, nor Obama's true intentions.
Obama's secret ME policy lies in ruins --- Benghazi/Libya, Egypt, now Cameron's Syria "defection"---surprises all out of his control, maddeningly out of his control.
Congress "leaders" will do what they will do, but behind the scenes, Obama is in a purple rage. Dumped his rage on Congress (brilliant! took the page from Cameron's and his humiliating defeat and sent it to Congress---and like Cameron, Obama reserves the right to ignore Congress (like Cameron DIDN'T); then he dumped on Cameron and UK; UN blocked him; NATO blocked him; now he his dumping on the "world" --- "it's not my red line; it's YOUR red line."
The Obama psyche is on tilt.
Kerry reduced to this statement of squalor:
Kerry: Arab Countries Offered to Pay for Invasion
Poignant and cogent comments on this thread. Many posts asking, Does that reduce the US military to a mercenary or a whore?
“don’t special ops wear “boots”?”
You are making too much practical sense. The slippery eels don’t count special ops as “American troops.”
I posted before (but haven’t been able to find the link for substantiation) that there is a plan on the drawing board to send special ops into Syria to “secure the chemical weapons.”
Insane madness [redundancy intended], but ask yourself, How will it be possible to secure chem weapons without “boots on the ground.” Kerry/Obama adm fudge by saying we will take out Assad’s chem delivery system. Absurd. Even the rebels have a delivery system. We are being punked on this point.
I am a military strategy/tactics illiterate, but I heard an interview with a military expert. He said that without a serious force on the ground that there is no way possible with the weapons we have in the theatre that we can take out chem weapons without gassing the public. At the very least , such a feat, he said, would require bombs of such a high degree of heat not deliverable by Tomahawk. (I think that is what he said).
I will try to find that link to the interview also.
I am such an illiterate on these matters, I wouldn’t even comment EXCEPT for my outrage at the extend to which we are being lied to and flimflammed.
Re: Syria, the Obama adm has at least 3 shell-games going on simultaneously, and you put your hand on one of them
We shall see if Putin has the gonads to back up his rhetoric. Syria their favourite Arab country and proxy in the Middle East. I bet Putin sticks tail between his legs and runs. Too bad he’s going to allow the community organizer to kick his arse.
Putin said U.S. congressional approval without a U.N. Security Council resolution would be an act of aggression, and accused U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry of lying by playing down the role of the militant group al Qaeda with rebel forces.
