I suspect the sentence was a a reflection of the judge’s outrage at the support shown the offender. Good for the judge.

If I remember correctly, the victim in this case (a boy, gender having been conveniently left out of the story) was 13 or 14 when the "relationship" developed.
This wasn't a couple of star-crossed lovers, or a Romeo and Juliet (or Romeo?) love affair. It was a man who got caught diddling a young boy, and who was a good enough con man to get other adults - who should know better - to support him.
A mistake is something that occurs on a test at school.

'Somebody sent an anonymous email with pictures of my son to the board of education and the superintendent.'
This family is going to need a lot of support in the coming days. How tragic for them to have to sit by as IDIOTS support their son's MOLESTER instead of them and their victimized son.

DH has already said if it were us and our young son, there wouldn’t be a need for a court case. He is a man of honesty and integrity and loves his kids fiercely so I have no reason to believe he wouldn’t do exactly what needs to be done.
