Sarah Palin calls for restraint in Syria
Repost of Sarah Palin's August 30 Facebook post on The US Financial Post Blog ^ | September 2, 2013 | Matthew Patrick

While it seems as if members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are aggressively calling for action to be taken against the Syrian government over its alleged use of chemical weapons on its own citizens, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin seems to be taking a position more in line with the founding fathers by calling for restraint.

In a Facebook page Palin said regarding the country’s internal civil war that President Barack Obama should “let Allah sort it out.”

“Our Nobel Peace Prize winning President needs to seek Congressional approval before taking us to war. It’s nonsense to argue that, ‘Well, Bush did it.’ Bull,” Palin said in a Facebook post Friday night. “President Bush received support from both Congress and a coalition of our allies for ‘his wars,’ ironically the same wars Obama says he vehemently opposed because of lack of proof of America’s vital interests being at stake.”

“As I said before, if we are dangerously uncertain of the outcome and are led into war by a Commander-in-chief who can’t recognize that this conflict is pitting Islamic extremists against an authoritarian regime with both sides shouting ‘Allah Akbar’ at each other, then let Allah sort it out,” Palin continued.

Many of the founding fathers including George Washington warned against America becoming involved in foreign entanglements such as what is happening in Syria. While no one would dispute what is happening is horrific, the question is, does the situation pose an immediate and direct threat to America?

Palin went on to note the criticism leveled against Obama by others over how he appears more concerned about the death of 1,500 due to chemical weapons while turning a blind eye to the 100,000 who have been killed using conventional weapons.

“We didn’t intervene when over 100,000 Syrians were tragically slaughtered by various means, but we’ll now intervene to avenge the tragic deaths of over 1,000 Syrians killed by chemical weapons, though according to the White House we’re not actually planning to take out the chemical weapons because doing so would require ‘too much of a commitment.’”

The Obama administration is attempting to justify the double standard by saying the use of chemical weapons violates international conventions and therefore justifies intervention whereas conventional weaponry does not rise to the same standard.

Following the president’s announcement that he would ask Congress for a resolution of force against Syria, some have said it may not be as much of a slamdunk as he might think. Sen. Patrick Leahy has already said the Senate will be modifying the president’s proposal because it is too open ended. The president has also sent mixed signals as to how important he considers the resolution by suggesting that he has the authority to launch an attacking without the approval of Congress.

Most everyone agrees that chemical weapons were indeed used in a suburb of Damascus, however there is dispute as to who actually deployed weapons. The Syrian government has claimed the weapons were used by rebel forces in an attempt to draw America and the world into the Syrian civil war in order to help them overcome his series of defeats. However, others have pointed out the Syrian government is known to have stockpiles of chemical weapons whereas the question regarding possession of these weapons by rebel forces is not as clear.

The “candidates” are always on thin ice” blah blah...

What is Sarah running for? Must’ve missed it.

You’re one of those thankfully fairly few here who refuse to seperate out issue positions and advocacy from name-calling.

Her issue position is opposite in every conceivable way from McCain’s. How CLEAR that is!

But she must call him an idiot or else, according to you.

McCain is showing himself to be what he is. End of Story.

Meanwhile, Sarah sails on, on the USS Common Sense, and when that ship fires on the enemy, it nails its target EVERY TIME.

Governor Palin hasn't run for any office since 2008. Five years. I don't see her as a candidate right now, more as a mentor, opponent to Mr. Obama and his disastrous agenda, elder statesman, king-maker, political commentator and advocate for common sense conservatism. When she throws her hat in the ring you can start calling her a candidate again. As to her very limited endorsement of John McCain in 2010. Do you know ANYTHING about politics? When a man picks you out from among 320 MILLION possible people to be the vice presidential nominee for one of the two major parties in this country, you don't stab him in the back by refusing to endorse him for a seat he already holds.

Sarah Calls for a Little John Adams-like restraint and the GOPers come out of the wall to dismiss her.

funny how we didnt hear a -peep out of Obama in 2006 when his cousin Odinga slaughtered all those Christians in Kenya...

Yeah and not only that and Obama actively campaigned for Odinga to win the election---which Odinga lost then went on a rampage killing Christians and burning churches.

Let me ask you this. If she KNEW he was going to get us into WWIII would her loyalty stop her from speaking out against him because he selected her to be his running mate 5 years ago? Eventually the free pass has to expire. She could do this country a lot more good by a simple condemnation of McCain’s actions. Do you really think any new “Palin Haters” would sign up if she publicly disagreed with him?

To all of you who get upset when someone simply lets you know they don’t worship Palin or any other politician, I ask you this: Do you have any idea how much damage she could do to McCain by simply disagreeing with him? If she did, do you think a whole bunch of new RINOs and media would start hating her? You know the answer is “NO”. But I guarantee you some new supporters would sign up.

I believe Sarah Palin is a thorn in the RINOs’ side. But she helps keep McCain relevant.

Finally, I believe McCain and the RINO elites selected her so they could destroy her. She was an “up and comer” and they were afraid of her. So, McCain helped kill her chances of ever holding office. I would hope she’s smart enough to see that. And you, too.

Now, go ahead and attack me. And, while your at it attack me for voting for Romney. I regret it.

I didn’t call you or anyone else a name. It’s you “old posties” who feel like you have the right to call people names because YOU don’t AGREE with them.

I’ll say this one more time. I came here in 2000 but changed my screen name for personal reasons. Not that length of time is a reason to call someone a name.

Sarah Palin did publicly disagree with McCain, on this and many other issues. Does she have to name McCain in order to satisfy you?

Write your own script and stop telling others what you think they should say.

No one cares what text will reflect your personal ideations.

Listen for once.

I’d rather hear you discuss this kind of thing, than taking pot shots that are nothing more than critical off hand remarks.

I agree that there is a good theory out there that they were trying to Co-opt Sarah Palin. It is a good idea. Talk about that. Don’t tell us useless information like your first post.

I’ve never told anyone what to think. Unlike you, who insults anyone who doesn’t 100% agree with you about Palin.

Hey, you defend her all you want. But others can have differing oppinions.
