Will New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul finally bury the hatchet after their apparent feud?
The Daily Caller has learned that Christie has been invited to join Paul when the libertarian-leaning Republican travels to New Jersey for a campaign appearance next month.
Paul is heading to Clark, N.J., on Sept. 13 to campaign for Steve Lonegan, the Republican nominee in the state for the U.S. Senate. Lonegan, a former mayor, is running against Booker, the Democratic mayor of Newark.
A spokesman for Lonegan confirmed to TheDC on Monday that Paul will attend the Victory and Liberty Rally. The campaign event is being organized by Lonegans Senate campaign, which has invited Christie to the event.
Governor Christie has been invited, and we hope that his schedule will permit him to attend, said spokesman Will Gattenby.
Its not clear yet whether Christie will accept the invitation. Representatives for Christie didnt immediately respond to a request for comment from TheDC over the Labor Day weekend.
Pauls trip to New Jersey comes after the two Republicans have gone back and forth recently on matters of foreign policy and national security. Within the party, Paul is viewed as non-interventionist. Christie is seen as hawkish.
Last month, Paul extended an olive branch of sorts an invitation to Christie for a brew in D.C.
Im inviting him to a beer anytime he would like to come down and sit down at the pub right around the corner from the Senate, Paul said on Fox News.
But Christie appeared to decline Pauls offer, at least for the moment, saying on the radio that hes too busy running for re-election.
Im running for re-election in New Jersey, I dont really have time for that at the moment, Christie told a local radio host. If I find myself down in Washington Ill certainly look him up, but I dont suspect Ill be there anytime soon, Ive got work to do here.
Both Christie and Paul are thought of as potential candidates for president in 2016.
Maybe they should get a room.
Screw ‘em both. Totally unreliable.
Why?
Woo hoo!! Christie-Paul the Laurel and Hardy ticket.
OK, inviting him to be there when Sen. Paul visits his state ... understandable, common courtesy, etc. But if this is any more than that, then we got us a deal-breaker.
Exactly. Unless Rand invited Krispy to eat his leftovers, I don’t get it.
LOL
So are we being played by Rand?
A wimp and a blimp.
Has it ever been different? Didn’t he push for immigration reform?
Rand Paul is going to make Christie out to be the troll that he is for the RINO Department of the REPUBLICAN Party, after reading the tea leaves.
The Party and big money on both sides of the aisle is amassing behind Christie and Paul knows it. Paul is after the “fed up” votes and something may be up.
I hope.
Yes Rand Paul did push for immigration reform but tried to play both sides on that issue as well.
Christie got gastric bypass surgery. Only possible reason is to lose weight for a White House run.
Maybe Rand figures he had better make friends with the guy or else Christie will eat him.
We know. Can’t tell by his appearance that it’s working just yet.
There haven’t been a lot of pictures of him out in public lately. I’m sure its part of the agenda.
Ha! Thanks, I was looking for that photo.
What is lost here on everyone that back when we had a choice in the Republican primary for Governor... Lonegan and Christie were the candidates. Lonegan got my vote then... for the same reasons Rand would get mine if the 2016 presidential primary were on October 16.
Christine has “invited” Paul, undoubtedly, to be the sort of support that Christie can’t give to the Lonegan campaign... as Steve Lonegan has always had a more grassroots, Tea Party, sort of platform... which Rand Paul is certain more connected to than Governor Christie could ever be.
Paul would be good to support Lonegan... and rally the base of what remains of the GOP electorate in the state.
Rural NJ is still red... for now... but there are an awful lot of entitlement class votes in the urban areas. Then there are the Coexist sticker on their Prius crowd voting too.
I would like to hope that Lonegan actually has a chance here... I mean it would be a double whammy to the RATS to lose Lautenberg’s old seat to a Tea Party Favorite...
It’s the direction the GOP needs to go... away from the Arlen Specter on acid types like John McCain and Lindsey Graham.
