I only know that AQ appears to have done quite well in the region after the fall of Quadaffi, and their MB allies got but weren't able to hold power in Egypt following the "Arab Spring" uprising. Now they stand to gain a foothold in Syria if Assad can be overthown. All of this has been aided and enabled by US foreign policy under Obama.
