President Obama ordered two more executive actions Thursday to restrict guns, banning the re-importation of military surplus firearms to private entities and proposing a regulation that would close a loophole in background checks.
Also, the administration said it will deny requests to bring military-grade firearms back into the U.S. to private entities, with a few exceptions, such as for museums. Currently, when the U.S. provides military firearms to its allies, either as direct commercial sales or through the foreign military sales or military assistance programs, those firearms may not be imported back into the United States without U.S. government approval.

The US military rifle models available to the civilian market stopped with the Garand. The M14 and M16 can never be sold to civilians, even if converted to semi-automatic action. ("Once a machine gun, always a machine gun".) It specifically exempts the US gov't -- so those 87,000 Garands reported to be in storage in South Korea can still make their way back, eventually. The number of firearms effected fy this must be really, really, really small.
IMO, it's supposed to impress gun-grabbing liberals that he's actually doing something, which he is not. At worst, it's an attempt at "death by 1,000,000,000 paper cuts." (With 999,999,998 to go!)
Based on NICS numbers, Obama has been the best President for firearms sales in history. I think they're losing this one.
“Neither of these two EOs is going to get anyone arrested.”
I understand. But the left keeps adding laws and rules and regulations, the end result of which is to make owning and carrying guns riskier. Their holy grail is to make it illegal to transfer a gun so you can’t leave them to your children or sell them to somebody. That way, eventually, they’ll either collect them all or make everybody a felon.
Government by decree — something is very wrong with our nation.
Maybe we can get the illegals to bring some guns with them, so they can sell the guns on the side of the highway leading to Sanctuary Cities
I’ve always wanted an M14 (had a mini-14).. So, if I go back to the states, there is no way I can purchase one? :/
Not as such, no...but you can purchase a Springfield Armory M1A, which is essentially a semi-auto M14.
There might be a few full auto M14s floating about, but they'd probably go for something in excess of $20K at a guess.
Why did you indicate that Thomas Sowell wrote the article when the article indicates that Dave Boyer wrote it? Or do I have the wires crossed somewhere?
Mr. Boyer needs to understand that the Supreme Court officially clarified in Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer that executive orders, which are not mentioned in the Constitution, do not have the force of law unless supported by Congress.
And since Congress is divided on gun issues (and everything else), such executive orders are pure theater imo. In other words, Obama is probably trying to make himself look like a king making edicts in the eyes of low-information voters.
Semi would be fine with me.. Such great weapons for their time (and still can be.).. and semi is the ONLY way to go for accuracy.
And anyone that has fired a M14 on full auto can attest that it is not a heck of a lot of fun and just about impossible to hit anything. The cost of the ammo you just wasted has to hurt as well
If there was an upside to the M16, it was that it could be controlled on full auto.

$1600-ish without extras at Gunbroker.
Thanks!
I hated the 3 round bursts on the AR15s, even.. kick wasn’t that bad.. but the range to target makes the biggest difference.. and with semi-auto (price not included), you keep your ammo much longer (so survive much longer).
Unless in training, and it was required, I always kept it on 1 shot.
Recently the president took executive action banning the re-importation of US military surplus firearms to private entities.
These firearms, primarily 1903 Springfields, M 1 Garands and M 1 Carbines were used by our Armed Forces to liberate hundreds of millions of people from tyranny.
They were then lent or given to many of the liberated countries to arm their militaries and guard their freedom.
When these countries no longer have use for these arms they are re-imported back to the US and sold to civilians through the CMP which was chartered by Congress in 1903 to promote firearm safety and marksmanship.
These arms are primarily purchased by collectors, target shooters and citizens that value their historical significance.
These arms do not end up on the street and are not the weapons of choice of street criminals or terrorists.
The obama regime has armed Mexican drug cartels and Chicago street gangs with modern weapons in a cynical plot to increase gun violence so as to create the atmosphere conducive to more draconian gun control laws.
The rationale for this executive action is to infringe on the 2nd Amendment and keep these arms out of the hands of the people that this regime fears most, the American Patriot.
DO NOT LET THIS STAND!
“So if I understand this right - clown wants to infringe our GOD given rights (2nd Amendment) by making us criminals, but all at the same time turning a blind eye to the real CRIMINALS? “
By Jove, you’ve got it!
In that respect, it's working:
Mayors Against Illegal Guns celebrates the end of imported "Military Grade weapons"
BTW, 1 gun I would LOVE to shoot full-auto.. I believe it is called ‘mini’.. I think 2000 rounds per minute.. but I will probably never even see that in person in my lifetime :p
(BrrrrrP.... BrrrrrrrrP... Brrrrp {some target shredded into a billion pieces ;)} ) ;^D
I can see full auto on a rifle at very close range. House to house fighting, in other words.
Other than that...nope. Stick to semi-auto.
I could see the rationale though: it did not take but a bit over a second to dump a 20 round magazine, and the 30 round mags were in the future.
After years of firing the M14, the M16 seemed to have no recoil at all.
