Rice also came under fire after controversial details of her large investment portfolio were revealed by the Washington Free Beacon and others.

According to personal financial disclosure forms, Rice’s net worth in 2011 was somewhere between $27 million and $50 million.

Three companies in which Rice has invested – oil company Royal Dutch Shell, Norwegian aluminum manufacturer Norsk Hydro, and Australian natural resource company BHP Billiton – have been criticized for conducting business with the repressive Iranian regime in defiance of international economic sanctions.

Additional sanctions on Iran’s economy, designed to stop the its pursuit of nuclear weapons, would actually hurt Rice’s portfolio, a Free Beacon analysis found.

“That Susan Rice invested in companies doing business in Iran shows either the Obama administration’s lack of seriousness regarding Iran or Rice’s own immorality,” former Pentagon advisor Michael Rubin said after Rice’s controversial investments came to light.

If you look at her career, she follows the typical beltway path of public office when Dems control (Clinton and Obama) and private (hedge funds, think tanks) when Reps control. (Bush).

Pretty much everybody in DC is wealthy, I’d venture that she is not unusual at all. My cousin’s husband is a lawyer who worked for Carter and Clinton, and was in private practice during Ford and Reagan/Bush. They have serious bucks.

Even CNBC had to admit that DC insiders, largely unhindered by the trading rules that apply to us commoners, make “market crushing” investment returns.
