How Marco Rubio lost his tea party credibility
Miami Herald ^ | 9/1/13 | MARC CAPUTO

Marco Rubio once looked like the Republican savior over immigration.

Now, to some conservatives, he seems as trustworthy as a door-to-door salesman.

From the right-wing talk-show hosts to local activists at town halls, many conservatives say they’re upset that Rubio’s talk and deeds conflict over comprehensive immigration reform.

“The problem is he sold this based on talking points,” said Jason Hoyt, an Orlando tea party activist, summing up the discomfort many conservatives have with the Florida Republican senator.

“He had four or five talking points, which sounded pretty good,” Hoyt said. “But then we saw the bill, and it was 1,200 pages of detail. And then there was article after article after article about how bad the bill was.”

So it’s not just policy (implementing a path to citizenship, increasing border security) that’s the problem. It’s trust.

It’s not that Rubio is perceived as two-faced.

"he seems as trustworthy as a door-to-door salesman"

A "salesman" who just decorated your back with an assortment of Ginsu cutlery.

It really is sad about Rubio. He is certainly one of our most articulate spokesmen on the right. But if he can be so easily rolled by Schmuck Schumer, to the point where he gives up his own previously stated positions, he needs to find another line of work!

I don't believe he was rolled, I believe he deliberately misrepresented his position on illegal immigration.

Sounds like he would make a great used car salesman.

Rubio was wearing a mask. When the mask fell off, it turned out to be Charlie Crist underneath.

“The problem is he sold this based on talking points,”

The problem is that he tried to sell it at all. WE DON'T WANT AMNESTY FOR ILLEGALS.

Rand Paul’s immigration speech

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

[but he’s not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]

Rubio had a little “blood” in him...FR got on their knees like they usually do...From Colin Powell to Condi and Cain...they are waiting for a shade darker to save them.....Good Luck.....Check out my county (Mobile, Alabama) and look at the demographics....I know what i be sayin’ and $hit....Things are looking up...we replaced our fat, fag black Mayor with a white business man...could have knocked me over with a feather....Blacks didn’t bother to vote...That is quite telling...think about it.

Rubio never had credibility.

From day one he pushed open borders in speeches he was giving in Spanish to La Raza and similar groups. Many of these speeches wound up on YouTube and links were posted to them here at Free Republic.

There were idiots who lacked the intellect to perceive the implications of that. Maybe there still are.

It’s very difficult to be sneaky when your words are recorded and available for review.

But if he can be so easily rolled by Schmuck Schumer,
He wasn't rolled by Schumer. His Chief of Staff is an open borders dipshit
to the point where he gives up his own previously stated positions
Which positions? The ones he stated in spanish or the ones in english? Cuz they aren't the same "stated positions".

so once again, as always the SCM is deciding who our candidates will be....

of all the ship that the faker in chief has gotten away with, they seem to instead want to kill off any competition 3 yrs before the prez race...

and just like little toy soldiers, many so called conservatives will jump at whatever they say....

Which position? This position...from the article...

• Rubio2010: The upstart, long-shot candidate, who bested one-time Republican Gov. Charlie Crist, took a hard line on immigration and generally called a pathway to citizenship a mistaken “amnesty.”

Montgomery is also majority-black and currently has a white Republican mayor BTW.

send Rubio to a refresher course in the constitution and how to be a patriotic citizen of Hispanic origin to be given by Senator Cruz.
