If someone is here illegally, we may decide to grant them some type of legal residency contingent upon their behaving lawfully and staying off of public assistance. However, why isn’t this enough? Why are we obligated to allow them the right to vote? This is the point where I depart from a lot of Republicans.

Bingo. The Democrats are quite vulnerable with their citizenship is not negotiable line. It’s one thing to acknowledge facts on the ground and grudgingly say ‘okay, we’ll normalize your presence here’ but to then reward line jumpers with citizenship is unfair to those who play by the rules and clearly self serving. If we had any Republicans with verve and moxie they’d be pushing the Democrat’s faces into that bs, but instead they concur: yes, there must be a path to citizenship. WTF!
