By the way the word is “misinterpret,” no hyphen. But don’t worry...law schools these days produce a lot of illiterates.

I would have said “gild the lilly” is the worst mis-quote/mis-interpretation.

P.S. Another one that kills me is the (mythical) Marie Antionette quote about “let them eat cake.” I looked up “cake” and suddenly it all made sense. *yuck*
