While it's brutal, awful and sad... it's still not our fight. This country in 2008 chose, through its election of Obama, to descend to the second tier of world power, and the funding of our military reflects that mindset. We can't be all things to all people.. The UN, the Arab League, NGOs and others can tend to getting a cessation of hostilities and begin the process of rebuilding. ...But it's not our fight. We're a severely declining country in our own right. We don't need any more foreign adventures right now.
Lets assume, just for one mad moment, that Kerry isn’t lying, and 1,429 people, including at least 426 children were killed in chemical weapons attacks. That still leaves a lot of important, unresolved issues:
1. Who launched the attack — the regime, or the rebels?
2. Of the 1,003 adults killed, how many were innocent civilians, vs. ununiformed combatants? *
3. Of the children, how many were being used as human shields? (If, that is, the attack was launched by the regime. Otherwise, the question becomes how many were herded by the rebels, to serve as unwilling martyrs for the cause?)
*It’s a war crime for a combatant to be out of uniform, after allowing sufficient time from the beginning of hostilities for the provision of uniforms.
