Two weeks have passed since Perry Beam posted to his Facebook page about the two rodeo clowns lampooning President Barack Obama at the Missouri State Fair.
Two weeks of getting emails calling him “ Un-American!”... “Coward!” ... “A hater of Missouri because you embarrassed the state so badly!”
He says now the video would have stayed in his cell phone if he’d known the whole thing would be like stepping into a big ol’ political cow patty.
But the 48-year-old was angry at what he saw. The act crossed the line from traditional spoofing into racial overtones, he thought, especially when one clown tweaked the lips of the masked Obama and riled up the crowd, asking if they’d like to see Obama get gored by a bull.
Nobody else in the audience had seemed bothered, he said. Beam, however, was there with his mixed-race family. The Higginsville man decided he’d write a letter to complain. But that night, he posted about the comedy bit.

Retribution was swift, too. The two clowns — one’s gotten death threats — were banned for life from the Missouri State Fair Rodeo. The rodeo announcer, who had nothing to do with the skit, resigned as president of the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association and seemed in danger of losing his job as superintendent of the Boonville School District before being absolved Wednesday.
And Beam himself has been overwhelmed by hate letters, emails, anonymous phone calls and name calling from bloggers/columnists. Last week he thought someone let out the air in all four of his tires, although now he says he’s not sure, his tires were old anyway … but all four?
And his weekly jam sessions at an Oak Grove diner, the Broadway Grille, seem to have fewer musicians sitting in with him.

Wonder if he made the same fuss when Bush was lampooned by rodeo clowns. Congrats to whoever let the air out of his tires, but not to worry apparently he has plenty of hot air to spare.

This is so irritating. You can’t make fun of the bastard (literal) that has tanked this country? Every time you do it is racial. Blacks need to grow a pair when it comes to politics and say that they should be subject to the same type of criticism and satire as anybody else. Until they do I say they are not fit to hold office.
He himself said that if the clown had worn a Joe Biden mask we would not have had any conversation about this incident.

Because Obama governs more like a monarch than a democratically elected, term-limited president (supposedly of all the people) the fact that any kind of joke at Obama's expense is instantly condemned because he is black makes Obama beyond not only criticism but even beyond a bit of ridicule. This is not healthy, fair or in the tradition of a free people who reserve the right to say what they wish, even in jest, about the president, as comedians have been doing for many years, specifically when George W. Bush was in the White House. He was mercilessly mocked and ridiculed, T-shirts with the slogan 'Kill Bush' were sold on the internet and although Republicans were very annoyed, they didn't try to destroy anyone's career or worse.
So, Perry Beam, playing the 'aw, shucks' game and pretending that he didn't mean nothin' when he posted his video of the rodeo clown wearing an Obama mask as a bull chased him around the corral for a few minutes while the audience rightly laughed, as intended, doesn't impress me at all. Perry Beam was, all together now: 'offended' and wanted everyone to know it. He can drape his actions with good intentions all he wants but the reality is that Beam knew what he was doing even if he didn't realize that the leftmedia would latch onto his little video and use it as more armor for Obama to fend off criticism while making a rodeo clown's job prospects a lot dimmer and making the Missouri state fair officials act like idiots while trying to distance themselves from leftmedia disapproval. Boo Hoo Mister Beam. Boo Hoo.
That rodeo act has been around since 1968. That is when I first saw it.
