Let him openly affirm that his faith (presuming it is) condemns homosexual behavior, while he's in uniform or in the presence of his fellows, and let me know how it goes.

I persist because you brought it up. It so happens he's quietly assisting a member of his platoon to receive Christ. Homosexuality hasn't entered into the conversation and it's not going to.
He's protecting your freedom to do quite a bit, actually, whether or not he's in Syria. But you know that.
