SOUTHFIELD (WWJ/AP) - A local McDonalds restaurant was forced to close after its employees walked out and hundreds gathered outside to protest for higher wages.
The restaurant on 8 Mile and Lahser roads along the Detroit/Southfield city line was just one location locally where fast food workers are participating in a nationwide walkout for better wages.
Over 200 protestors crowded the restaurant, carrying signs that read We are worth more. Strike for 15, as in $15 an hour...

The price point of a Big Mac meal is right on the tipping point where I’ll just go to five guys or a local bar/grill instead. These days when I go to McDs it’s with my kids and I get a dollar McDouble.
At $15 an hour the dollar menu is going to go away. And McDs will lose even more of my business ..
That and you get a full view of the food prep area.
What are the chances that a certain racial/intellectual/hygienic demographic are the ones striking?
Bullets and mre’s will be worth more than gold soon.
I’ve been doing the “slight edge” thing on bullets. Kinda like a 401k. A little here and a little there and next thing you know you can retire...
Now I should think about getting a gun. ;-)
I started at McDonalds when I was something like 14 yrs old at 95 cents per hour as a Summer job. My father’s cousin owned five of the stores in the Chicago suburbs. We’re talking early 1960s. It was my first job, and I liked it, but my father made me quit. I eventually ended up in college...then medical school and became a doctor. I used to laugh about the fact had I stayed at McDonalds going up the ladder to being a store owner, I’d be a millionaire by now.
These are entry jobs, great for kids starting out, then you move on. Do people actually expect to make enough money simply taking orders at a Drive IN?
yep, see my post 54
For us it’s really about canning and traps. We have tons of critters here, and no small number of cattle, frankly.
All week long, there have been so many cars going to the drive-through in support of this promotion, CFA had to modify their operations. The CFA staff were outside, manually taking orders, lining cars up two-by-two, and placing the orders via their headsets. Some of them would chat politely with customers in their cars, while waiting for the next order. It was hot out, and these teens were just as cheerful and polite as usual, as we've come to expect at Chik-Fil-A.
If it were up to me, these are the kinds of workers who deserve a big boost in pay--they're efficient, polite, and always get our orders correct. But I doubt you'll see any of these kids on strike. They probably understand that many of them would lose their jobs, or have their hours cut. Which is more than what you can say about these McD workers.
And you can snack on free peanuts while you wait for great greasy burgers - I love them like that!
And they are probably happy to see people there too.
The comments there are worth the “price” of admission...nanotech and transhumanisation...LOL!!!
The pics, confirmed what I probably already knew about any “pressed, formed, chopped” products.
“There is a GREAT all you can eat chinese place by where I work. $4.99 all day.”
You mean you actually eat “ flied Lice?” OTOH, the local Chinese restaurant is probably “ staffed” by family members or illegal Chinese immigrants who won’t talk. Not places where the SEIU is going to get any members.
It's surreal.
Well, some of those people may have just talked themselves out of jobs. Good going, folks.
If they were actually worth $15 per hour, someone would already be paying them $15 per hour.
200 people? I wonder how many of those people actually worked there. My best guess is 3.
The bastards protesting don’t want a job....they’re being paid by the union thugs.
They should fire everyone who didn’t show up for their shift. I’m sure there are many who would love to step into those positions.
