WASHINGTON (AP) The Obama administration said Wednesday it would take action against the Syrian government even without the backing of allies or the United Nations because diplomatic paralysis must not prevent a response to the alleged chemical weapons attack outside the Syrian capital last week.
New requests for the United Nations to authorize military action in Syria may have complicated the Obama administration's plan to take retaliatory action on the purported poison gas attack east of Damascus that U.S. officials claim was carried out by President Bashar Assad's forces.
But a State Department spokeswoman said possible U.N. rejection of the U.S. plan most likely led by Russia won't slow the administration.
"We cannot be held up in responding by Russia's intransigence continued intransigence at the United Nations," Marie Harf said. "The situation is so serious that it demands a response."

Britain says no Syria action before UN inspection results
http://news.yahoo.com/britain-says-no-syria-action-un-inspection-results-185322699.html
Britain will not take military action against the Syrian regime before UN inspectors report back on evidence of chemical weapons attacks, according to a motion published by the government Wednesday that is set to be put to a parliamentary vote.
Lawmakers are due to vote on Britain’s response to the attacks on Thursday but any military action will require a further vote of parliament’s lower House of Commons after the UN experts confirm their findings, according to the motion.

Biden: ‘No Doubt’ Syrian Regime Behind Chemical Attack
ice President Joe Biden today said there’s “no doubt” that Bashar al-Assad’s regime is responsible for the recent chemical weapons attack on Syrian civilians, as the Obama administration weighs its response.
“There is no doubt that an essential international norm has been violated - violated. Chemical weapons have been used,” the vice president told the American Legion National Convention in Houston. “And there is no doubt who is responsible for this heinous use of chemical weapons in Syria: the Syrian regime.”

Key lawmakers to get Syria chemical weapons briefing Thursday
http://news.yahoo.com/-key-lawmakers-to-get-syria-chemical-weapons-briefing-thursday—203406315.html
Key lawmakers will get a classified briefing from the Obama administration on Thursday regarding Syrias alleged slaughter of civilians using chemical weapons last week, two U.S. officials said.
The briefing, to be held by conference call because Congress is still out on its August recess, is expected to include the chairmen and ranking members of key committees as well as the top leaders from each party in each chamber, the sources said. One of the officials specified that chairs of the House and Senate committees on armed services, foreign relations and intelligence would likely take part.
The officials asked not to be identified by name or title in order to discuss a classified hearing that has not yet taken place. It was not clear which officials would brief lawmakers.
What would the objective of our launching an invasion of, or war against, Syria be?
How would our attack war plan achieve stated objective?
How will we know when we’ve achieved it (is it visible or measurable, or)?
I am not an isolationist. I just want simple answers is all, so maybe my limited little gray cell can comprehend?
Thank you, WashDC.
Can you say “unilateral declaration of war”? I knew you could.

Just FYI: What vital interest of the United States is at stake (worthy of war) in this threat to bomb Syria?
Bush had 20 or 30 countries in the coalition, but the lying left said he was going it alone. Now, Barry and lurch are talking about going it alone in a truly unnecessary war, and nothing but crickets from the stupid, hypocrites of the left.
The 4th Term of the Clinton Administration.. she gets “Obamacare” without her name attached to it.. can’t wait ‘til the 5th.. oh yes i can.
Even George W. Bush, already considered a “cowboy President”, was not nearly as brash as that Greatest American Hero, Bronco Bama. Bush at least went through the motions of getting UN support and some measure of agreement from the US Congress, rather than go off with the hammer only half-cocked on the six-shooter.
This approaches psychotic. Valerie Jarrett, can’t you rein in your boy?
Oh, that’s right. She IS psychotic.
